It's one of my favorite albums of the last 4 years , if you can count an album that was never "officially" released. Actually, it pisses me off that LA Reid and Arista wouldn't release this, claiming that it was too "challenging", yet, a year later, they released Outkast's 'Speakerboxx/The Love Below'! and if Common can release an album like 'Electric Circus', and Mos Def can put out 'The New Danger', why did they give Q-tip such a hard time? Sure it was uneven in spots , but so are those other albums...Kamaal predated all of 'em, yet it's still gathering dust in the vaults...

..and Now, the same thing seems to be happening to his new album, 'Open' sad ...it's supposed to drop this year, but I'm not holding my breath...

This is truly disturbing to me...great new music that's not getting out to the masses.

I've been listening to Kamaal the Abstract for the past four years now (I downloaded it from one of the filesharers in early 2001). Like paligap, I really like this album. I enjoyed The Love Below as well, but since I had been listening to Kamaal for so long by then, Andre's album did not represent the artistic breakthrough to me that it did to others.

I have heard some great things off of Open ("Official", for one -- a song that will blow minds if it ever sees the light of day). I, too, am not optimistic regarding its eventual release.

It's one of those albums that will see a re-issue by Q-Tip himself around 2010.

Yeah, right now, he seems to be gettin' passed around like an unwanted stepchild...Dreamworks sat on it forever, now Universal bought them out, so...who knows?
