give me your top ten NPR (non-prince related) ok, i don't know if this has been kicked around here lately or not, but what ten cds, other than prince related stuff, would you take with you on a desert island? here are mine, in no particular order:
songs in the key of life - stevie wonder it's kind of like a precursor to emancipation, just a massive collection of great tunes that celebrate life with all of the good and the bad. best (and most prophetic) line is from village ghetto land: children die before they're born/infected by the grief. wow! anthology - sly and the family stone put this one on and everyone will want to know how you got so many classic songs on the same cd. an instant party and totally slammin'. the book of secrets - loreena mckennitt beautiful, stunning, poetic. sends me worlds away. now please share yours... (what's the story) morning glory? - oasis this is glam, pompous and derivative brit-pop at its absolute finest. this is what rock and roll should sound like in my opinion. medazzaland - duran duran stop laughing. duran duran has not only outlasted so many of its contemporaries, but it has produced its best record ever with only two of its original members. this is edgy, decadent, and beautiful. and infinitely more interesting and exciting than what u2 has done since the 80s. little earthquakes - tori amos i remember prince once saying that with dirty mind he would have put his blood stream on record if he could. this cd is so raw and true, it is as if tori cut (or crucified) herself and is bleeding right through your speakers. did i mention some of the most beautiful, haunting and memorable arrangments ever? blondie - the best of blondie just one great pop masterpiece after another. kind of blue - miles davis you can literally do anything while this record is on. it manages to fill up its own space without being intrusive to its surroundings. rather it perfectly complements them. a quiet yet intense masterpiece. symphony or damn - terence trent d'arby this is a criminally overlooked record by a criminally ignored artist. take one listen and then try to tell me he hasn't got it all. what can't ttd do? (besides have a hit) blue - joni mitchell the original version of a case of you. 'nuff said? Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

i don't think "best of" or "anthology" or "greatest hits" cd's should count towards best cd. a lot of artists can have stellar works this way that outshine great full length albums.

Get started. I've been a fan since "Rid of Me" and I've downloaded all her b-sides and rare tracks. I'm loving 4-Track Demos and Dry right now for personal guitar lessons. She's definitely one of my favorites. It's been awhile since I've listened to her but I'm hardcore again.

Tron, I love the version of "Snake" from the 4 track demos much better than the album version. It is sooooo raw. That track leads the line up for a theme CD I put together dealing with "antilove".
Here is the tracklist: 1- SNAKE / PJ HARVEY 2- ARMY OF ME / BJORK 3- PSYCHOLOGICALLY OVERCAST / FISHBONE 4- WHY U WANNA TREAT ME SO BAD? / PRINCE 5- IS THERE ANY LOVE IN YOUR HEART? / LENNY KRAVITZ 6- ENERGY SUCKER / LUCIOUS JACKSON 7- KAMIKAZEE / PJ HARVEY 8- JESUS CHRIST POSE / SOUNDGARDEN 9- VIOLET / HOLE 10- JUST / RADIOHEAD 11- MS. JACKSON / OUTKAST 12- MOTHERFUCKIN MINUTE MAN (SEGUE) 13- SOMETHING IN THE WATER / PRINCE 14- MOVIN / FUNKY GREEN DOGS 15- NEVER BE ANOTHER FOOL / CHAKA KHAN 16- HOPE IT FELT GOOD / NIKKA COSTA 17- SOME LOVIN / LIBERTY CITY 18- WASTED KISSES / PRINCE You've checked out Dance Hall at Louse Point right? Another fantastic project. PJs potential is so limitless. I'm amazed that this woman has grown as she has. Those first albums are great but I just love how she's matured as an artist. It's truly breathtaking. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740
