His latest CD 'Gemini' received a less-than-glowing review in the new issue of Vibe magazine. They give it two and a half stars...

McKnight's identity is at odds with itself

No doubt about it,Brian McKnight has a beautiful voice. On his eighth studio album,he claims he's a chameleon and he's right. But 'Gemini' doesn't merely display the duality of it's title,it finds more sides to McKnight than we'd ever wanted revealed."Everytime You Go Away",for instance, begins with Brian at his best--belting out a ballad backed by piano. But unbefitting lyrics ("I don't give a damn what my homies say") stop the song in it's tracks.Similarly, with "Grownman Business",the 35-year old crooner sounds ironically juvenile when he sings: "When you decide that little boy's finished, girl, come here and get this grownman business".

On the pleasing midtempo "She", McKnight is reminscent of Ronald Isley, and he attempts to channel Prince on "Everything I Do".While the results are convincing, the idea of McKnight doing Prince is more bizarre than the Purple One himself.

In under an hour,McKnight morphs from finger-snapping street-corner singer to preacher to Prince. The man certainly has range, but the borderline-cheessy-balladeer Brian we've known and loved didn't need a musical makeover.

Yeah I suggest you head on over and pick up a Me'Shell album for his greatest hits.

One song he had a few years ago is such a rip off of "Adore" that P should have sued.

I've been saying that for years. This guy sucks...well, I mean he really annoys the mess out of me.
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

My advice - Get his debut.

Everything else is crap.

Btw, you can watch most of his videos on Yahoo LAUNCH.
Even those early ones.

C ya wink
I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt.

Wow -- you may have the worst of his material in your collection.

You haven't truly experienced Brian McKnight until you purchase his debut CD. It's his best IMO. I also really enjoyed the follow-up, I Remember You. I highly recommend purchasing both of those projects.

I've heard his more recent material. While it's quite good in spots, none of it can touch his first two CDs.
