Alicia Keys "America the Beautiful" at Superbowl?

Was the song prerecorded? She sounded amazing but it was really hard to tell it if she was miming or if it was live. It sounded TOO perfect!

If it sounded too perfect, then it probably was. Alicia has a habit of never sounding *really* good live.

It appeared to be pre-recorded while she was sitting at the piano but as soon as she got up, it seemed like she was singing live. She's such a poor lip syncher, it was easy to tell.

Off topic but...why is there so much snarky dislike displayed for A Keys on this board?

Backlash due to her being overhyped. That and jealousy.

Let's stop reducing our standards. It was an average performance. Whitney, Diana Ross, and others have put on much better shows..

Come on, BK. That's not fair. NO one can say that Miss Keys doesn't have talents but her voice is average to me. And what are people supposed to be jealous of?

Her success. She is successful, and that merits jealousy. This holds true for many other artists as well. Perhaps if she weren't so overhyped from day 1, there wouldn't be such a backlash, but who knows.

Regardless to what some on here say, she is not an average pianist. Most of the people posting that don't have any idea of how much work it takes to play like she does. Her voice is above average. Maybe not in comparison to some other R&B singers, but in comparison to the average person on the street it is. She needs guidance. Too many average thinkers around her.

So if we're not musicians and are happy with our lives, we really all want to be successful pop stars like Alicia...OK then confuse So why isn't every thread here grounded by jealousy? After all, there are many artists besides Alicia who might inspire such jealousy.

Uh uh. You either like her or you don't. I think a lot of people on the org can take her or leave her on the basis of her voice. Most people don't complain about her piano skills, it's the insanely overrated voice that does it. Stealing melody lines from James Brown and writing completely average songs also plays a part. She's better than the average person on the street - but so what, if she's still overwhelmingly average relative to other voices on the R&B market. The Return Of Soul, she ain't.

I agree. Yet she is still successful. Many don't believe she's worthy. Still, someone who doesn't frequent this site as often would notice how much more harsh people are towards Alicia than other artists like Ashanti or even Missy Elliot who by some means would be considered less talented.

Come on. Then why aren't we jealous of everyone? I could be a garbageman and consider myself a success and be perfectly happy being a garbageman. What I don't understand is why, when someone says that they don't like a particular artist, that it's gotta be something wrong with them or they're a hater? Wouldn't it be above average thinking to think we all have different taste?

Mmmmmm, no, sorry, no one here likes Ashitty.

alicia is worthy of the praise and success she gets. to me it would be a shame if she didn't get the praise she does. shes a nice singer (i'll take her over beyonce, ciara, ashanti and alot of the other girls that r out n e day) shes a good songwriter (diary, if i aint got u, so simple, feeling me feeling u, troubles, and nobody not really (especially the last one 4 me) are all great songs) and i think shes a nice pianist (i wont praise her alot on that cuz i don't listen 2 too much music piano music). i think alot of people that are hard on alicia and alot of the other artists period r just wishin for a time thats not commin back
Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...

nod Exactly. I sorry but vocals have never been Keys strong suit. All she is good for is composing and playing keyboards and thats it.

Whitney sounded good, because she lip synched it. She weren't doin' it live.

And there's the problem; Alicia's talented compared to today's popstars. She was hyped as a prodigy, and IMO, she doesn't deliver. The girl's got a decent voice and she can play piano well. Songwriting wise, I'm not convinced; the only song I've ever really liked of hers was 'If I Ain't Got You'. 'Falling' was a James Brown rip-off, 'How Come...' a cover, and 'You Don't Know...' was based around a sample.

The problem with music today is that our standards are just too damn low.

Alicia may be over hyped, but is still more talented than most female artists out there, she's more worth of her hype than some other artists who are often mentioned here, anyway like everything with music it's a matter of personal taste.

Are you really comparing Alicia's talent to Ashlee fucking Simpson?? whofarted You need reform lol hammer

Alicia is definitely overhyped but she DOES have talent, unlike Ashlee who has NONE AT ALL. And I really don't understand the problem people have w/ Alicia's singing - her voice is nice to me, not the best, but pretty fucking good. The only problem I've ever had w/ her is the amount of praise she gets & that her studio albums are more shitty than good. But when she's live, she's cool... exclaim

Are we fighting now Ms. Sq? chair
The question was if the song was prerecorded. I did not watch but if the song was indeed prerecorded I by all means wish the CD would skip. Be it Alicia or any other singer. Because I'm evil like that. evillol

I said nothing about Alicia being on Ashlee's pitiful level. Yes she is overhyped and full of herself, but my main issue is the quality of artists and their performances. Mainstream/major label music just does nothing for me. Everything is so watered down and desensitizing. I just don't see Alicia as the genious saviour of music. She has 10 writers per song just like everyone else and gets so much credit and still lacks artistry/orginality. shrug
I personally would rather be tortured to her albums than hearing her live though, that's for damn sure.

Forgot to say I still love you edit. hug

Nah, we ain't fightin', you know I'm right lol hug

I misunderstood the Ashlee reference BUT let's not pretend Alicia would do a ho down & run offstage lol Despite what may have been prerecorded today, she sings live & plays live & could recover pretty quickly in a similar situation b/c her talent backs her up.

And I agree w/ you about her not being the savior of music people like to label her as, but I AM glad she's sitting @ a piano singing songs she wrote rather than shaking her ass like most of these no talents smile
