One Hundred Albums You Should Remove from Your Collection Immediately

Yes, I know, it's one of these lists that no-one can agree on... hell, I don't agree with alot of the stuff in this list but luckily the comments are kinda tongue in cheek.., Anyway, I stumbled upon this list a few minutes ago and although it's a bit old (2002) most of the stuff there is still relevant. So here it is, the list of 100 albums they say you should get rid of:

http://www.jaguaro.org/fe...00007.html

Any comments?

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
You fantasize that your friends come over and admire you for having this album don't you? Yeah, too bad you can't fucking stand this shrill, rambling, incoherent mess. Oh, and if you've got The Complete Bitches Brew Sessions, you should probably just give it up and sell your entire collection, you poser.

Just a quick scroll through this list has me rolling my eyes at how "cool" this person must think they are for not liking popular and well loved albums. rolleyes

You know, it's "OK" to like good music that stands the test of time. lol

Adding "Physical Grafitti", "Dark Side of the Moon", and fucking BAD BRAINS on this list just about gave me an aneurysm. omg

lol

I think they mistitled the article; I think he should've called it: "My favorite album didn't make the Rolling Stone Top 500, so I'm going to bash 75 of the albums that did".

Bashing 'Pretty Hate Machine', 'Physical Graffiti','Transformer', 'Hunky Dory', 'Zenyatta Mondatta', 'Zooropa', and 'Nothing's Shocking' no no no!

Isn't it just as trendy to dislike albums like 'Joshua Tree', 'Dark Side of the Moon', 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Clubs Band', and 'Tommy'? I think the author is just going for his indie badge. shrug

I agree. I could never get into him beyond The Police days.

Well it's good to know that I don't have to take my copies of Girl You Know it's True, Invincible and Forever Your Girl to the CD store when I go to trade in War, Synchronicity, Let It Be, and Vs. lol lol

Heh heh, I don't have a single album on this list. Therefore, my CD collection must be pure gold...

Not just too AC - can't you feel the weight of his "artistry" and ego in the music? barf

Not to mention the tantric sex. Ewwww...
I do like We'll Be Together Tonight. That was when MTV was in its heyday, and I would spend a lot of time watching it.

The Roots - Things Fall Apart
Aside from the Black Thought/Mos Def collaboration on "Double Trouble," this critical darling is frankly unremarkable among hip hop releases. The novelty of having live, competent musicians playing behind a rapper shouldn't leave anybody in a lather, but unfortunately it has. Subtract out the live musicians and you've got a third-rate MC in Black Thought. Take him out of the equation and all that remains is a funk band with a painfully homogenous sound.

A third rate mc? Surely you jest. Homogenous sound? what the fuck?!

Let's leave the talking about hip hop to true heads, ok?

His rant about Coltrane's "pornographic" Giant Steps made me realize why I watch porn with my girlfriend, and he probably watches it alone. He pointed out the fact that The Dust Brothers contributed heavily to Pauls Boutique, a great album and a valid point, but lost all credibility by calling Black Thought a third rate MC? A album like Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness may be somewhat pretentious, and yet once again he fails to give any real reason to discard a classic like Dark Side Of The Moon? Its hard to give him credit even when he has a point.

I think it's a joke designed to piss people off

I must admit that I did not check out the whole list before I posted the link... because some of the choices make you go: WTF? eek Like for instance: RHCP - BloodSugarSexMagik, Pearl Jam - Vs., Pink Floyd - DSOM etc. etc..... However I still think the comments about Sting and Offspring are right on the money.... biggrin

Prince - Emancipation
Quit buying every single Goddamned Prince release! Don't you know he fell off in like '89? You bought this 3-CD set because you thought that the sheer number of songs guaranteed a few keepers. You were wrong

Hmmmm that comment is quite amusing even if I don't agree!

This guy is completely full of shit. Giant Steps? Layla? We're Only in it for the money? F*cking Sgt. Pepper? I think this guy needs to actually develope some taste beyond the assumption that everything that's ever been praised or hyped must suck. And his generalization about all jazz after the big band era is unbelievably offensive, ignorant and sophomoric.

I guess its a subjective thing, but I will say this.. his reasons sound like they come from someone under the age of 12....

If the context of what he's listening to is shallow, his reasons for not liking them are meaningless..

nod I was going to say that too; When I was 15, I would've sworn up and down that The Downward Spiral was every bit as influential and important as Sgt. Pepper . I'd like to see what his favorite 100 albums are; something tells me that they all have indie-cred, and truth be told, are probably derirative of many of the albums that made the list.

I agree.. and not that indie music is bad.. hell, most of my music is from the underground scene.. but his reasons for not liking those albums simply had no meaning..
