Will someone please explain the longevity of Marques Houston?

From the stupid kid group Immature/IMX, to tv shows, movies, and a solo career, this dude has been around forever and I don't know anyone who can name one song of his!! As a child entertainer he's certainly no MJ or Stevie. Not too many child stars are. But Houston doesn't even compare, vocally, to Tevin, Usher, Ralph Tresvant, Justin, etc. and take your pick. Yet this dude seems to always have a gig going.

confuse I don't get it.....

You're confused? So am I. You just said nobody can name a song of his...how does that equate longevity?

I think the reason for his longevity is because he was never that famous or popular. He's just always kind of been there and working. I doubt he has this huge fan base. He's just kind of a working actor/singer. I know that he has a new show with Shannon Elizabeth and he looks familar but I couldn't tell you what I know him from before that. He's just kind of here...

I thought that at first too but I don't think so. That's the only reason I checked this thread and then I remembered that it's a different guy.

Do you know the difference between the words "longevity" and "familiarity"? confused His career is like 13 years old now (longevity) yet, he hasn't done anything musically that people can easily call off the tops of their heads (familiarity). Most people remember him as "Roger" on the tv show Sister, Sister with the Mowery twins and recently from the movie You Got Served Yet I don't think he's good as a singer or an actor but he seems to always have a gig going. That's what's confusing to me.

Yeah, smarty, I know the difference between familiary and longevity. What I'm saying is, there's got to be a certain amount of familiarity to equal longevity. A lot of people have been taking little scrappy jobs for years. That's called struggling and desperation, not longevity.

I don't think they were in it (I don't think they do anything with each other anymore). Immature or IMX or whatever replaced them...not sure if it was the same charcters as those from the third movie (which I never fulled watched). I only saw a bit of the begining of this movie and I think Marques played the "Kid" like role. It was either straight to video and then was on the USA channel not long after, or vice versa.

cool....I think I will never be able to c that movie. And I ain't importing it either.....kid n play don't hang out anymore? sad Too much time together i guess, plus continued failures (they were given chances too which was generous).."class act" is still a great movie!

Continued failres? Like? I never knew them to have to many big hits, nor too many "chances" at success. I always figured the movies they did were all at least modestly succesful. I looked up "House Party 4" on IMDB, and it was striaght to video and only appears to have been released in the US and Canada (lucky us) but I think that makes sense since it's such an American movie and was only straight to video. I'm sure there are UK movies that never make it here. BTW, I typed in "Class Act" on Amazon and some series or something with Joanna Lumley popped up! She's in a lot of UK movies and shows, isn't she?

Well "house party 2" "class act" "House party 3", every album but "fun house"? they peaked around the first movie and to my knowledge, "house party 2" was proberly deemed a failure COMPARED to the first. Not many remember "class act".....

I liked "house party 2", i found it better then the first.

Tony toni tone (whatever) guested as did ralph tresvnat of New edition.....the soundtrack was sweeeeet.

I ain't heard of joannna lumley "class act"? she big in USA then? I don't like "ab fab" much.....too many one liners.....the early series were at least quite funny

evillol Fair enuff, except for the part I put in bold.

I guess I'm just amazed that ol' boy has been around so long and most people still don't know a rat's ass about him. He hasn't had any major success, but lots of work...a very long resume indeed. Samuel L. Jackson once said of himself that he (willingly) comes for cheap when compared to other Hollywood movie stars/celebrities. This is so he can always pick and chose the roles he wants and still have plenty of work. This must be the method that Marques works under as well.

Also, thanks to thesexofit for pointing out that ol' boy does appear to have his head on straight and stayed clear of trouble over the past 13 years.

She isn't big in the US....I just dig "Ab Fab" and notice that she seems to work at lot on UK series that end up on DVD. I haven't seen "Ab Fab" five but thought four was kind of weak, even though I bought it right away on DVD.
