Anyone know about the Egypian Lover? I heard he was a producer/artist in the 80's that made electro jams. Can you tell me a bit more about him?

One of the most innovative producers of the old-school/electro era, Egyptian Lover's Greg Broussard recorded a parade of singles during the mid-'80s that proved influential for decades. Influenced himself by Kraftwerk/hip-hop soundclashes like Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock" and Man Parrish's "Hip-Hop Be Bop (Don't Stop)," as well as the extroverted black-lover soul of Prince and Zapp, Broussard began recording from his Los Angeles base in 1983. One year later, he emerged with the breakdancing anthem "Egypt, Egypt," released on the Freak Beat label. Similar to excellent tracks being produced all over America -- from Detroit (Cybotron) to New York (Mantronix) -- "Egypt, Egypt" and successors "What Is a DJ If He Can't Scratch," "And My Beat Goes Boom," and "Computer Love (Sweet Dreams)" spent much time in DJ crates during the '80s and '90s. Broussard also released several LPs during the mid-'80s, including 1984's On the Nile (practically a greatest-hits compilation), 1986's One Track Mind, and 1988's Filthy; the first two appeared on his own Egyptian Empire label. After several years away from music, he returned in 1994 with Back from the Tomb and the following year's Pyramix. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not taína. Taíno is in me, but there is no way back. I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there. I am new. History made me. My first language was spanglish. And I am

As far as rap goes, The Egyptian Lover is my absolute favorite. This was back when rap was good. He sampled sometimes but, when he did, they were usually small snips and the sample didn't serve as the whole foundation of the song. He was strictly showing his DJ skills. Most of his songs were originals and were made from with beats and melodies of his own.
If ever there was rap's version of "Prince", then Egyptian Lover would be it. This MF usually made jams that could be played with any of the funk of the day and still keep the asses shaking. His music was made for what music should be made for...the dance floor. Andy is a four letter word.

He also had an album in either 1989 or 1990. I can't think of the name of it, I would have to pull my cassette. It contained the jams "Get Into It" and "Dance Music". Also in the 1990s, he had a greatest hits album which contained full length 12 Inch versions and a new version of "The Alezby Inn" which sounded very Prince influenced. If anyone has ever heard Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Let's G" from the late 1980s, it sounds very much like The Egyptian Lover. Andy is a four letter word.
