anti-skating devices control the lateral force of the needle. Too much lateral force and the needle will bow to one side, too little and it bows to the other. Anti-skating should be set so the needle is dead-center when it sits in the groove. Otherwise, the needle tends to rise out of the groove and cause skipping. I think it needs to be set to match the amount of weight applied to the stilus, as set by the counterweight at the opposite end of the tonearm. Except mine was a Snoopy record player and my sister had a Raggedy Ann one just like it. My mother used to have something similar to this: This one's much older than her's was but you get the picture. Andy is a four letter word. | |
