What about Black Sabbath ?
Before them there was no "hardrock"

Why is nobody responding !? pout

Yeah there was. There was Zeppelin. And Deep Purple. And Cream before them. Sabbath are considered more the godfathers of "metal" or "heavy metal". By that, I guess I mean that dark, forboding sound/lyrics that they had. Sabbath didn't really have a bluesy side to them.

Zeppelin and Cream are generally considered to be the bands that started the "hard rock" genre. Hard rock meaning heavy blues-rock. Come to think of it, Deep Purple is kind of in the middle of the two genres. hmmm

Anyway, it all comes down to "heavy" rock in the end anyway, I was just pointing out that Cream and Led Zeppelin had albums out before Black Sabbath. biggrin

Until Dio came along.

Sabbath would make the top ten in a purely rock category...anyway Ritchie Blackmore is way nicer than Tony Iommi, so is Jimmy Page....I'll leave clapton outta this, cause Jimi had completly eclipsed him a few years earlier.

Didn't Zeppelin pre-date Sabbath by a year or so?

The most influential band in Britain for the last ten years has got to have been the Stone Roses. Never has a band spawned so many (largely shite) imitations.

a few names

Oasis
The Verve
The Charlatans (to a degree)
early Blur

Loadsa pish like

Shed Seven
The Mock Turtles
Northside
The Farm

And even today with Kasabian (although I quite like them)

I'm sure some of you could add to this list
“If I can shoot rabbits/then I can shoot fascists”
