New book about Black Rock n Rollers

I just finished reading a new book about black Rock N Rollers.

Rip It Up The Black Experience in Rock N Roll by Kandia Crazy Horse.

Book includes a good article about Betty Davis and Arthur Lee. The book also includes a list of all of the black artist involved in Rock n Roll.

Anyone that was interested in the other topic about Black Rock n Rollers show really pick up this book.

Right on, Laurarichardson! This book is an excellent resource for anyone interested in music, period. The Funkadelic chapter was a good read. It actually turned me on to their older(and best )stuff. The Bad Brains chapters were like 1st hand experieinces for me. I really like how different authors are used for all the chapters.

I agree with you on the Author Lee chapter. I never knew that he went through so much. I saw an ad for one of his shows in a recent MOJO mag. Good to see him still at it.

I also dug the interview w/ Slash. I still think he should've fucked Axl up for that One in a Million shit wink

biggrin Great book, I just read it last November!

I had a minor issue with the cover: it just says ,"featuring Slash, Lenny Kravitz and more..."(as if that's where black rock stops and starts), but I'm sure that was the publishers idea, to generate sales...

Thanx 4 the info. Looking at how many posts are on the black rock thread, I think a lot of folks would be interested.

Kind of weird because I just got this from Amazon.com on Monday and I get on the org this morning and see the Black Rock and Roll thread. Kind of took me back to my first Fishbone show. I was really happy to see whole roomful of black folks who were into rock just like me.(LOL).

side (but related) tangent:
i was shocked to find out this morning
that a few months ago, james spooner, the filmaker behind
"afropunk: the rock n' roll nigger experience"
had a fire in his offices

i want to arange a showing of the film in my area
(suburban philadelphia)
the film is likened to the book

anyone seen the film?

(on the way out o' the office for the day;)
go to afropunk.com
we have to help mr spooner get back up and running
the price for the film seems to be negotiable
and considering the recent disaster
i feel this is the time to approach him
maybe i can spur some activity and help him
regenerate funds to replace lost equipment...

Ive read that one and didnt care much for it....George had some pretty unkind things to say about George Benson.I dont care for Benson's pop sides too much either ,but when you can play like he does....
