"Soul Train" vs. "American Bandstand" Back in the days before music videos, the two main shows to actually get to see our entertainers were "Soul Train" and "American Bandstand". Both shows were really great. I used to watch "Soul Train" for all my R&B favorites and "American Bandstand" for all my pop/rock favorites. Which one do you think was better?
I'm leaning more towards "Soul Train" for the dancing alone. The dancing was much better than "American Bandstand", especially in the 1980s. In the 1980s, everyone on "American Bandstand" seemed to be doing that one little dance that Eddie Murphy used to make fun of while "Soul Train" could really get off. Some of the girls on "Soul Train" used to get on my nerves though, just walking down the line trying to model. Andy is a four letter word.

There's another theme I've been looking for but I don't know who did it. I remember hearing it in 1979 before The Whispers did their theme. The ones I have are: TSOP - MFSB Soul Train Theme - Soul Train Gang (This time period is where the missing one is) Up On Soul Train - The Whispers Soul Train's A-Comin' - O'Bryan (Album Version) Soul Train's A-Comin' - O'Bryan (12 Inch) Andy is a four letter word.

I like them both, and I refuse to pick one over the other. I do, however, get a good laugh out of an early Margaret Cho standup routine where she mentioned how pissed off she got as a kid when Saturday morning cartoons would come to an end with an airing of Soul Train. As a little kid, I hated both shows for that very reason - I wanted my cartoons!

I know the one. I'm humming it now. I thought my sister would know the artist, but she wasn't sure. Funny, but I thought about this recently and went searching the net for info. Couldn't find any. Anyway, I watched both. ST's my favorite for so many reasons. But, I liked American Bandstand too. Remember ABs "Rate a Record" (think that's what it was called)? It had a good beat and you can dance to it! While ST had the "Scramble" board. AB had the "Spotlight" dance while ST and the "ST Line" (or "Aisle"). Bandstand had an annual dance contest. One year ST dancers Tyrone Proctor and Sharon Hill won it! Another year Cat Glover and her partner Pat won it! She had this dance she called the "Cat Scat." (I think she does it in "Sign O' the Times.) Again, my heart belongs to ST, BUT Prince performed on AB first! I never saw him perform on ST, though. [Edited 2/1/05 8:17am]

Oh, snap! Lou!!! I think he's in Usher's "Caught Up" video. He used to crack me up. He always did more stylin' and profilin' than dancing. But he did had smooth moves!
Who are the guys with him? The one in the middle reminds me a little of Glen Stafford and the other one look very, VERY, familiar. And Cheryl! Remember her in Rick James "Super Freak" video? I thought she was going to be on ST 4ever!
