Who's the most boring/dull artist ?

Since there is such a varied of musical interests here and on occasion we love to rag on a hated celebrity ( Ush.. oh you know for example ), who do feel is a boring or dull singer, performer or writer in music? If their music was playing in the elevator, you would gladly take the stairs. When you here them at the dentist's office, you ask for sleeping gas even if your only getting a cleaning?

My personal choices are one, Brian McKnight. All of his songs sound similar, they're so bland and slow. He's a capable writer but all he seems to do are mid tempo Adult/Urban hits that pass through you ears having left no impression.

One other choice of mine is Dido. Were it not for Eminem's smashing sample of Thank You, she would have slipped into darkness.

Who's your choices?

She hasnt done anything to me but
Norah Jones sound like she would put me 2 sleep.

Oh and Monica. I like her and all, but her voice doesnt go too far and she has predictable bridges and structures to most of her tunes. Plus she has sleepy eyes.

Can I also add Sarah McLachlan. Some of her music's OK, and she has a great voice, but if you've ever listened to a whole album, they're great soporifics. Not only that, but they all sound essentially the same, so she poses a triple threat: consecutive doses of Surfacing, Mirrorball and Afterglow can be coma-inducing.

I would lump her along with Dido.

I get your points about Norah, she's a cute woman but aside from Don't Know Why, you'd win the lottery before you remember another song from her. She just caught a righteous wave when she won those Grammies, I'm sure in hindsight it was at some more deserving artist's expense.

It usually is. She's one of the stranger things that caught on in the past few years, that's for sure.

Score two points for Anx. I don't get the success of Dave Matthews. Is it that Deadheads caught a whiff of them and didn't know the difference? What's in those Brownies? wink

I agree but not in total negative way. I put it on one and feel asleep. It was nice but I evantually gave that record to my sister. I really liked the first single from her second album, tough.

Dave Matthews and acts like that are a genre unto themselves - I don't know what you'd call it - frat boy music? Dreary, polite, unremarkable music that people can tap their toe to without having to think too hard about it.

You get some dap on this, it has to be looks and teen girl hormones, this kid couldn't rap himself out of a basket with no top. Add to that Mase and you'll be in a coma. I'd rather watch paint dry at night in a dark room than listen to either of them.

Man when I be in the Techno room in the Gay 90's in Mpls, I be like this shit sounds THE SAME ALL THE DAMN TIME. Techno is very very repetitive more so than R&B Music today. No one is tryin 2 change that...xcept me that is boxed

Anyway Oh yes, Chingy I cant stands his ass, but there are alot of young rap artists that I cant stand.

I think 90% of the music out now adays is dull and lifeless....I was never into techno or any of that other fluff stuff...just isn't my thing.

You know what though, even though I agree that these artists got a different energy, I hear their music as just alot more subtle rather than BLAOW in-ya-face over-expression.

Some days I can only take so much melismatic singing.

This actually almost happened to me. nod My sister and I were driving back to her house after skiing one day, just driving through the mountain passes, and she puts on Norah Jones. I'm not kidding when I say that I started dozing off right away, and I look over at her and she's barely got her eyes open as she's driving. She had to take the CD out and put something more upbeat on to stay awake. lol

I suppose it could have been that we were just exhausted from the day, but I doubt it.
