No, but wasn't he briefly a kind of 80s Dido with a big selling album of bittersweet songs about break-ups? And didn't he rapidly fade from view the minute he got laid? There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

His video for "Wonderful Life" is one of the most beautiful videos of the 80s I think. I saw him perform an acoustic version of that song recently on German TV. Very nice.
I always wondered why he disappeard so quickly after such a smash hit.

I always wondered why he disappeard so quickly after such a smash hit. He got laid, got happy and stopped making Depeche Mode Lite records. I'm being semi-serious. Ask Squirrel, he should know. I always wondered why he disappeard so quickly after such a smash hit. Songs like "wonderful life" and "sweetest smile" were the big 80s hits, but they carried on making other great suicidal tunes for years. In fact, their music simply got better and better. They were and are very ahead of their time compared to the whole jazz/Nick Cave hybrid thing going on, or indeed the likes of Portishead. They are one of those groups that have a good cult following, without the need for a label. Colin Vearncombe (the lead singer) released a brilliant 30 track acoustic album on new material, recored in 30 days. The band are about to reform for shows. Colins material sound like Damian Rice about to throw himself off a building! .
