I've had this song on repeat for TWO DAYS!

"Please Stay (Once You Go Away)" by Marvin Gaye, from Let's Get It On.

I cannot get enough...I need help. headlp When he sings

"I won't be able to sleep peacefully in the bed without ya beside me...anymore"

I swear I get weak in the knees like a schoolgirl.

My Marvin obsession is threatening to rival my Prince obsession. lol One thing about the both of them that just kills me is the way they can take a lyric like the one above, which doesn't really have to be anything special, and sing it in a way that smacks you silly. There are so many examples of both of them singing a lyric that, on paper, is seemingly mundane, but coming out of their mouths it's like a revelation from the stars.

Anyhoo...please show your love for this classic Marvin track. worship

that title always confused me, though,
because that's not what he sings:

Don't go away....

I know, me too. confuse

But still...it's Marvin. He could call it "Sniff My Ass, Bitches!" and we'd still be bowing down.

Very good cut from a very good album. After "What's Goin' On", Marvin really let loose. Marvin and Prince both shared the love/lust parallel which they held up to something spritual. Funk Mistress, u sound like u could have been in the crowd on "Marvin Gaye Live". Listen to the cut "Distant Lover". That has to have the loudest screams and squeals ever recorded on wax for a black man. U can totally hear the love and the lust those women felt for Marvin.

Definitely, I love the live "Distant Lover." I like it better than the album version; I love the way he was playing off the crowd. They were going absolutely bat-shit for him, and he responded by really playing up the high-drama emotional aspects of the song.

Yep, the live version is better. Marvin had complete control over his audience. He knew what time it was, and it showed there in spades. A lot of cats that wasn't used to that type of buckwildness from women would have booked off of the stage. But Marvin threw down and totally turned it out. I would've hated to have been the cats that had to clean up the arena after that concert, u know what I'm saying?

evillol

They probably had to get a bunch of industrial-strength spatulas to pry the panties off the stage and floor.
