Name artists who have influenced or inspired you There are many artists that I respect and admire but the 2 who really stand out for me and have influenced me, are Betty Dvais and Grace Jones!
Why? because as a fellow female rock chick, those 2 artists were absoultely fearless. They didn't get caught up in the "black women can't do that" bullshit and Betty Davis, in my opinion rocks harder than any artists, of any genre, male or female. Grace Jones embodies, fierceness, beauty and courage and simply does not give a fuck what anyone thinks of her! rock on!

Gene Simmons inspires me in two different ways - he inspires me because he's truly my favourite bass player I've ever heard and I love his vision with his music
he also inspires me as a person because I happen to really agree with a lot of his views on many things and I admire the person he is since I was a child he's inspired me in both ways

Bit of a rogue talent, she is. Like D'Angelo, loads of potential, but not really the means to access it in ways to create an album that is, well, interesting.

After all my years of listening to music, Prince is the only artist who has awakened a desire in me to write songs. As opposed to just enjoying and loving his music like all my other faves, Prince is the one I relate to and appreciate most as an artist. Not sure why, but I like his do-it-all attitude and drive for success and self-confidence and willingness to experiment and even fall flat on his face artistically. I admire that. And I relate to his writing style - his flowery, purpley lyrics especially. And the fact that he's from my home state helps too.

Prince: growing up black in a white environment, to me he was like my big brother. I looked up to him for his fearlessness in doing what he wanted to do and projecting the image he wanted to project. He was a true individualist, which caused me to embrace his ever-evolving work. His mentality still influences me to this day.
De La Soul: For their ability to grow and their refusal to compromise their work. Miles Davis: The coolness, the heartbreak, the sheer beauty of his work. John Coltrane: for his spirituality and fearlessness. Duke Ellington: for his elegance.and style. Sade Peter Gabriel: Passion is a work of faith that I cling to. Stevie Wonder: For his ability to express depth and emotion with clarity and beauty. Jimi Hendrix: His strength and his vision. The Police: for expressing feelings of longing, love, frustration and confusion so well. They embrace the absurdity of life and accept it for what it is. Earth, Wind and Fire: For their uplifting and overwhelmingly positive work. They were part of the soundtrack of my childhood.
