Your pick for Grammy Album of the Year?

Here are the nominations for album of the year. What's your pick and why? Don't forget to say why!

Album of the year
“Genius Loves Company,” Ray Charles and Various Artists; “American Idiot,” Green Day; “The Diary of Alicia Keys,” Alicia Keys; “Confessions,” Usher; “The College Dropout,” Kanye West

My pick is: Genius Loves Company. Why? Because it's real music! The duets are beautiful and Ray's voice sounds great. I know many people hate these collaboration albums, but there isn't a bad song on this one. I'm sure many people on this site will have negative things to say about it, but I feel that it deserves the win album of the year. The arrangements are beautiful and everyone sounds right on! There is no negativity and nothing frivolous about any of it. By giving Ray this posthumous award shows that the Grammy's still know what real music is all about!

Good God, those are the choices? I'll go with Ray.

Ya know, Ray Charles wouldn't be nominated if he hadn't died. This isn't to say that the album doesn't deserve the nomination. It just ticks me off that a legendary musician like him has to bite the big one to get this kind of recognition. That said, I hope he wins it...or else I hope Green Day wins it, because they've worked long and hard and I hear their new album is actually really excellent.

Yep, you're probably right about him not being nominated if he hadn't died, but regardless of that he deserves to win IMHO!

True, true and that bugs me too. What I heard of American Idiot I liked but not enough to honestly say. But Ray or Green Day would be fine with me.

Genius Loves Company was a good album. Not particularly inventive, but it's the kind of album (coupled with Mr. Charles' untimely passing) that Grammy likes to reward. I'd guess that will win, and it's the best of that sad lot of nominees.

Even though I loved the Ray Charles cd...I'm going to have to go with GREEN DAY...this album blew me away and it's the one album I have yet to stop listening to since it came out. It's a very signifcant album of our present time...it provokes thought, it can make you feel sad, happy, and most of all very angry...this is coming from someone who pretty much stopped listening to Green Day after the NIMROD album...this record fucking rocks and tells it like it is!

But as long as Usher does not win....I'll be happy...
Every minute of last night is on my face today....

I think Ray will win. I think the whole list is very uninspired this year.

Ohhhhhkay.....everyone else seems 2 think so but U R entitled to your opinion. I guess U R not feeling his sampling of old R&B tunes? Well, it's basically because of one song - Jesus Walks!...and All Fall Down!

I don't think U R a fan of rap music? So I understand...I'm not saying he should win but his album was different 4 a hip hop album vs. a 50 Cent or gangsta rap album.

"Everyone"? Who is "everyone"? Not many people on the org think Kanye is a visionary with incredible talent.

Bottom line - It was a great alternative listen for hip hop fans. Even the videos were different. Maybe consious underground rappers like Twalib Qualib (i know I messed up his name smile will have a chance 2 be recognized becasue of Kayne?

True enough. If there's good to come of it, I'm all for it. I'm not going to diss Jesus Walks, because I like the lyrics, but I think that he's a piss-poor producer who doesn't have an original idea in his head. He's a sample-happy whore (as someone dubbed Alicia Keys a few months back). Maybe he should just be a lyricist.

"Happy rap" isn't revolutionary, but it is refreshing in the modern context. Maybe De La Soul can make a comeback?
