Teachers condemn raunchiness Teachers say scantily dressed pop singers like Kylie, Britney and Christina Aguilera are pressurising primary school girls into wearing clothes that are too adult for them. Jim O'Neill, chairman of the Professional Association of Teachers, also says there is too much sex and violence in programmes like Emmerdale. He wants children's minister Margaret Hodge to pressure broadcasters to stop showing inappropriate programmes before the watershed. And he said parents should vet what their children wore to school where there was no uniform policy. Mr O'Neill said at the PAT's annual conference in Harrogate that the union had been criticised for speaking out against raunchy material on TV and in pre-teen magazines. "I am quite prepared to risk that this year, because someone has to say 'stop' to the dumbing down of standards in our society." He said: "Kylie Minogue might be a great singer but in many of these things you can see more of her bottom than you hear of her voice." Speaking of Christina Aguilera, he added: "She's another one who likes to show off her legs. "Britney Spears was promoted as being ideal for girls - the virgin thing and everything else. "Now that seems to have gone - she's quite raunchy now, when I think back to the fact she was projected as this country girl with flowing skirts and petticoats." Agree with AnckSuNamun. And anyone who takes a pop star as a role model needs serious help!
It's funny, because Kylie never seemed a skank to me. Naturally sexy. Britney and Christina have always seemed like very skanky hos, though. You don't look at Kylie and think, "well, I could get VD from being within 10 feet of her."

I do feel that young girls dress way too up for their age, but with the influx of so many teen parents who don't have good standards or examples to follow themselves it's no wonder kids fall easily for these looks. I'm a guy and I know I fell for the trendy looks when I was young, following RUN-DMC, NWA, LL Cool J and the likes, but this was a small phase in life. There's one part of the article I wholeheartedly agree with, " We need to put a stop to the dumbing down of our standards. " Jeux Sans Frontiers
