Who Sung These Songs?

Has anyone ever had a song that they really liked from back in the day, but never knew who sung it? Here are a few songs that I would like to know who the artist is/was:

Must Be The Music

Last Night A DJ Saved My Life

When Boys Talk

Bad Times

Can someone help me out? smile

Feel free to add songs that you would like to know who the artist is/was?

Thanks thumbs up!

Tavares..isn't that the group that sung Disco Inferno? If so, I don't think they sung the 'Bad Times' song I am talking about.

Never heard it,but I remember Lakeside's 1980 hit with that same title...

"I believe you know where I'm comin' from
It ain't hard to understand why your love is in demand
You know where I'm comin'from
Hey pretty baby...your love is on the one"

What "Bad Times" song are you referring to (that's a common title)? Do you have song lyrics, is a guy rapping with a girl singing the hook, was the song released in the early 80's, does the song go like this:

I Can't Stand It
You Can't Stand It
It's Just The Way Our Parents, planned it yeah

repeat

Bad Times whoa oh oh etc.

The songs you mentioned above were all released around the same time. If this is the correct "Bad Times", the artist is:

Captain Rapp featuring Kimberly Ball on vocals - Bad Times (I Can't Stand It)
Ohhh you keep saying stay the niiiiiiiiight
Just let me rock you 'til the morning liiiiiiight
It's cold outside
And much too late to driiiiiiiive
You know I need you baby
I'm so lost without your love

Don't forget the Tavares' cover of 'More Than A Woman' on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.

That's why your brain was tossing them into the Disco Inferno . . .

No problem - I kind of figured you were talking about the Captain Rapp/Kimberly Ball collaboration. That song is still played on old school radio today and is one of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis's early productions smile

ummm I think I brought up the song in your first Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis thread and I deserve the credit biggrin (just kidding)...but really, I did list it because I knew alot of people would'nt mention that track or know Jam and Lewis were behind it. I'm glad you listed it on your compilation biggrin. You're the one that had never heard the track right??? I told you that the 30 second teaser online was a waste of time and you needed to hear the whole track, glad you enjoy it, I still listen to it today, it's one of those run to the dance floor jams.

Well U deserve credit for mentioning it, but Vainandy deserved it for actually mailing to me the CD and more jams I needed for the album. So respect your honor for making it alive in conversation! nod

That song is BAAAAD! That 30 second clip was not the song I have heard a clip of. What I heard was a man rapping about bad Times, totally different than the one I heard.

The song is probably the funkiest thing I have ever heard so far this year.

The original song is a guy (Captain Rapp) rapping about Bad Times with Kimberly Ball singing...I can't stand it, you can't stand it etc. What version was sent to you? Is it the version with Kimberly Ball singing the whole song without the main performer Captain Rapp, if so, that's not the one they play on radio or played during the 80's. The all vocal version with Kimberly is part two or something (I bought a compilation CD for that song years ago and was mad when I played it because I did'nt care for it and I really wanted the original version - the CD cover even says Captain Rapp and his vocals were no where on the track, I had do some research, find the original version on another compilation CD and buy it...I hate false advertising mad

The version I have is from a compilation CD called "Old School" Volume 5 on Thump Records. Apparently, it must be either the instrumental or a dub version. I don't have the 12 Inch. Aikam is right though, Captain Rapp does rap on the A Side. It's been so many years since I've heard it that I can't even remember how it goes. That instrumental is slammin' though. Actually, it got more airplay down here than the vocal version so I really didn't notice it when I bought the compilation.

I don't know if he's the same guy but there is also a Captain Rapp that did a rap version of "When Doves Cry" a few months after Prince did the song. Jam and Lewis are not listed anywhere on the 12 Inch.

Which compilation CD did you eventually find the vocal version on?
