Stevie Wonder- "Jungle fever" and "characters"

good albums? I'd say no but both have a couple of good un's

"each others throat"
"Gotta have you"
"chemical love"

The title track "jungle fever" is very irritating

The uptempo's off "jungle fever" remind me of the production on Quincy Jones' "back on the block".....Stevie opted 4 pop and not newjack.....bad move.
But I like uptempo pop so it's all good.

"we are supposed to be sisters and brothers....."

I imagine fans hated this even more then "characters", which also had some good tracks like "get it" "skeletons" "one of a kind"!

Which u prefer and also, u like both these albums?

The only song I like on Jungle Fever is These Three Words.

Characters has one of my favorite Stevie songs: With each Beat Of My Heart. It always has great songs like One Of A Kind and You Will Know. Skeletons kinda kicks ass, too. nod

I got into a discussion with okaypimpn about Characters once. It's hit or miss for me, but the singles from that album were excellent. Skeletons totally kicks ass, and Dark and Lovely makes me wiggle my booty. booty!

I love "Chemical Love"! It's a little repetitive and heavy-handed, but the music is pretty sweet.

Characters I think is awesome, Jungle Fever is not one of my favorite albums but i love "These Three Words", "Fun DAy" and i feel "MAke Sure Your Sure" is Stevie at his best.

'Jungle Fever' is a solid album from beginning to end.I pretty much like all the songs. My favorites are "These Three Words" and "If She Breaks Your Heart"(which doesn't even feature Stevie on lead vocals).

'Characters' is a decent album, but like many albums from this period,it suffers from alot of cheesy late-80s production techniques (excessive synths, drum machines, and a "cluttered" sound throughout). There are some strong songs here ("Get It","You Will Know","My Eyes Don't Cry",etc),but I can't help but wonder how it would sound if Stevie had used a more stripped-down approach, with piano, harmonica and less synths.

"characters" is an od album. Well side 2 is anyway.....

Not much of a wonder fan really. But as it has 80's production (and "jungle fever" late 80's), I like some of the more poppy tracks.

I love the jacko duet "get it".....

"I'm gonna get it" etc.....

or as I used to say "i wanna hit it".....I was sad.

The duet MJ/Prince on Get it was disapointing...
These two guys have maybe the most beautiful soul voices, but on that song it dosen't work. sad I'm not very impressed....

I like both albums and, technically, it was the last time we heard Stevie with his "swagger" 'cause we all know Conversation Piece was a hot wretched mess.

From the two, I would have to choose Characters, though. Moreso because of "You Will Know," "Dark N' Lovely," "In Your Corner," "With Each Beat Of My Heart," "Skeletons" and "Free." woot! The only songs I really liked from Jungle Fever were "These Three Words," "Each Other's Throat" and "If She Breaks Your Heart."

Hmmm, I thought that Conversation Peace was a better album than either jungle fever or characters, but I guess you're referring more to his vocal performance?

Vocally, I believe Stevie's best album was In Square Circle. Musically, that would have to be Journey Through The Secret Life of Plants

Jungle Fever had some great moments. "These Three Words" and "Fun Day" (a highly underrated Stevie song) would not have been out of place among his '70s material.

Similarly, Characters contained some great music as well. My favorites from this album were "With Each Beat of My Heart" (another one that ranks with his '70s work) and "You Will Know".

Hey, Fun Day reminds me a lot of Girl Is Mine of Michael Jackson... biggrin

"My Eyes Don't Cry", from "Characters" was considered a classic here in Detroit as recently as the late ninties. Radio stations reffered to the Slide whenever they played it. It's a fun song but unforunately, wasn't a real hit and never appears on any collections.
