"Rich Girl" is basically a song from "Fiddler on the Roof"

I'll try to be breif since I'm not sure if this has been posted before but I was in Hollywood video the other day and I heard this song that sounded incredibly familar! It took me a while and then I realized it was Gwen Stefani's "Rich Girl" that I was hearing but it was a man singing it as "If I were a rich man..." and even the "la da da da" part. It was the entire chorus! I tried to find the TV and I'm not 100% sure but it looked like "Fiddler on the Roof"! And I have no idea how her and Dr. Dre got away with not listing the songwriting credit becuase it is so damn blatant but I'm sure those people have to be listed as songwriters somehow! As anyone else noticed this?

If I Were A Rich Man was written by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick for the Broadway play Fiddler On The Roof.

Both are credited as composers on Gwen Stefani's Rich Girl.

I have quickly grown to HATE that song. The na na na na na shit really gets on my nerves.

And yet I'm a big Fiddler fan. Go figure.

When you listen to the album every day, "Rich Girl" can get tiresome, but I gave the album a break for like 2 weeks and now I like "Rich Girl" again.

My least favorite? "Crash" I find it obnoxious!

I think the lyrics are abysmal!

" I'd have all the money in the world, if I was a wealthy girl" hmmm

Ummm...no shit!

Serious, is the best track on the album IMO.

There isn't much more this album does for me

"Serious" is my favorite.

Actually, my least favorite is "Bubble Pop Electric", not "Crash".

Me four.

And my bad on the songwriting credits. Bock and Harnick are listed as writers on the track, along with about half a dozen other people. Guess I just didn't notice it before. doh!

"Rich Man" is cool! Gwen's rendition in "Rich Girl?" Eh. Producers are getting out of control with some of this sampling. Still, nothing will ever top Jay-Z's "Hard Knock Life" for pure randomness.

I agree, but espesically "Rich Girl" and "Hollaback Girl". But then again, it's just a fun album, nothing deep.

Terrible but I guess she's considering that people right now have a love affair with lifeless and repitious "R&B", so it will probably be a hit.

CynicKill

I read when the album first came out that the song was an "interpolation" of the song "Rich Man" from "Fiddler On The Roof". Having never heard the song I made a fair guess that it was a blatant sample. They like to use that word "interpolation" in rap/r&b.

I think the entire cd sucks. Such pop fluff. I hope she goes back with the band and stops all this flaky solo shit.
