Aside from Things Fall Apart being a complete classic in any genre, I Absolutely had to get it just for this song. I was in Paris France on vacation, and I bought this CD with me to listen to when I was bored in my hotel room. I know that there were several different ablum covers The Roots used for TFA, the rarest one to find was the photo used of the chinese baby sitting & crying all alone in a bombed out train station, a haunting photo from WW II. Getting back on topic, YES YES and yes I love the funk out that song. Seriously!!

Sorry Teddybro, but that was Jill Scott's voice for the lady's part. There was a whole internal ruckus from the label about using jill in the video, apparently they OR someone felt she was too heavy ( as in FAT ) to be seen, so they just let it go as is without her. But as only Talent & time has shown and proved, size ain't a problem when quality Talent is found.

the rap is Jill????? are you sure???? sounds a hell of alot like Eve...and I do remember the controversy of which you do talk about,I also remember Jill making mention of her originally doing the hook that Erykah was brought in to do...I also remember Eve stating that that was her on the track...

ok google [ The Roots f/Erykah Badu & Eve] this song is sure to come up....
I remember the riff over which vocalist to use but that female rapper rhyming on that song is clearly not Jill Scott.

Actually, Uncle, Jill wrote the hook and was never intended to sing the hook. It was always planned to be Erykah and Eve in fact was the female chick rapping alongside Black Thought.

I think Erykah works the hook to better affect then Jill.

Actually The Roots INTENDED for Jill to do the song (Philly connection) (she wrote the hook), but the label wanted to go with a better known artist at the time...Scott's CD wasn't out yet and she wasn't "marketable" in the label's eyes...Black Thought & ?uestlove have said that in MANY interviews.
We run tings, tings nah run we....
