Smokey Robinson and The Miracles

I've been listenin' 2 the '35th Anniversary' boxset recently and there are some excellent songs on it including solo hits from Smokey like 'Crusin', 'Just to See Her Again', 'Being With You' and also the Motown classic's like 'Bad Girl', 'Shop Around', 'All I Want Is You', 'Got A Job', 'Who's Lovin' You', 'You Really Got A Hold On Me' and 'Ooh Baby Baby' amongst others.

I'd give the boxset **** out of 5

Are there any other fans of Smokey Robinson at the org? as Smokey is a fantastic songwriter and helped put Motown on the map with his early hits and writing for the Temps, Mary Wells etc.

I really like "Tracks Of My Tears" and "Bad Girl", but, I believe there is a "Smokey less" song on that set that set by the 'Miracles' called "Do It Baby" that I really love!

"Do It Baby" (1974) is a kickass jam,as is "Don't Cha Love It"(1975),which is in the same vein.In fact, many of the Smokey-less tracks are superb. The group was able to survive without him for a few years,at least.

I've always thought the Purple One's falsetto carried a strong whiff of Smoke.

Smokey Robinson has my favorite male voice, ever...I love it more than Michael's, more than Prince's, more than El's...it will always be tops for me. "Tracks of My Tears" is the one song I'd take on a desert island with me. love

I agree, espically on Prince's early albums like 'For You' and 'Prince'.

Check 'T.C. Lundy' of 'Force M.D.'s'. Some of his vocals may remind you of 'Smokey'.
