Disappointing concerts

Which performances were the most disappointing ever? Concerts that you looked forward to but were not as good as you thought they would be?

For me:

1. Bob Dylan, last year (by far the worst disappointment ever, I couldn't understand a word he was singing, didn't recognize one song ! Originality ok, but this was way too much ! Just an old fart, this Bob.)
2. Manu Chao
3. Ben Harper

Fischerspooner sucked.

Not OT at all - if someone took me to a Dave Matthews show, I know I'd sure be disappointed! biggrin

lol

I've actually saw him a few times on TV and I think he's one of those win-you-over artists. The only "jam" band I'd be interested in seeing.

U2. Really. I'll give them a second chance in June though.

i'll admit - i've seen him perform live on SNL, and i was impressed at how good his band was - but i can't help it, i really really really loathe his music. it makes me want to break my furniture.

Puuhhhleazze..... I've been to some crappy shows in my day.

I was dragged by my sisters to see the following acts at the Ohio State Fair:

Kriss Kross - c'mon, man. confused

Color Me Badd - hrmph

H-Town - mad

I know, the thread asks about concerts you were looking forward to, but I still needed to vent.

Pet Shop Boys, a few hip hop shows that I can't even remember, the Shins (booooring), Liz Phair (the first time I saw her...though she's gotten much more confident), Lou Reed (he's kind of an asshole whever he talks).

I've actually seen DMB in concert; dull, dull, dull. The man has no stage presence at all. He hardly moved his fat ass from the mic stand all night, and only played for about an hour and fifteen minutes. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed by his performance.

I was also disappointed when I saw REM this fall, but it was not because of the band. I had bad seats, and was surrounded by people that were only there to see 'Losing My Religion' and 'Everybody Hurts'; when they'd play a newer song or a very old song, huge herds of people left to get beer, use the bathroom, buy T-shirts, etc...
I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

I was my first Prince-concert. I really wish I would have seen an earlier show but still, this concert made me fall in love with the man completely ! I didn't know what to expect, didn't know who this man was... and then dayum !
shocked The best I concert I ever saw. Maybe because of the place I got. I stood on the third row, could smell the man... love

Where did you see him? I saw him in Ghent, October 28th 1998.

(but Larry sucked big time)

That was the first Prince show that I ever saw live and it was a larger than life experience. Hell, I was so happy, I shed a tear. It was a kickass awesome show and I'll never forget it.

I'm really sorry to say this, Purplegypsy, but mine would have to be Fleetwood Mac boxed I was SO looking forward to seeing them as I've been a big fan for many years especially of Stevie Nicks, but I was really disappointed. It's the only concert I've ever walked out on...and I wasn't nearly the only one either. Every minute there were more and more people walking out unfortunately sad

sorry redface

Wow that bad huh?

I heard people were walking out on "Lovesexy" but it had more to do with the running time.

unfortunately, yes...Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham were, for whatever reason, all over the place and it REALLY affected the whole show sad

Happy Mondays- for the Thrills, Pills n Bellyaches tour- First Avenue.

I was young, idealistic, diving head first into baggy and these wackjobs came to town. I was FREAKING out to get to see them. Got to the show and they played maybe 45 minutes. Shaun Ryder could barely stand or sing. It was AWFUL.

Course, a decade later I saw them do about the same thing at the Glastonbury Festival and I had a great time. I guess I knew what I was getting into by this point and went just to see the trainwreck smile

Second place goes to Cornershop. It still makes me sad. I've LOVED their last 3 CDs but it just doesn't translate live. They have had no personality, no connection with the crowd. Sadly I forgot that about the 1st show and PAID to see them a 2nd time. 10 minutes into the second show I looked at a friend and said "FUCK! I forgot, they SUCK live." A big crowd of us left the show early to go to a house party. It was THAT bad.

By far I'd have to go with SMASHING PUMPKINS...though they remain one of my all-time favorite bands they were hit n miss when it came to live shows.

I've seen them twice...once at Lollapalooza '94 where they kind of rocked but it was in 1996 which was their year with MELLON COLLIE AND INFINATE SADNESS and they played at an arena with Garbage opening (who were fantastic by the way).

This show started good...they played many familar songs for casual fans and Billy and Co. threw in a couple of fan favorites...but halfway through the show...the pace slowed down and for the rest of the show it was as if all 15,000 of us where witnessing Billy drunk in his garage tuning his guitar....seems he got upset backstage about the sound and started to intentionally play horribly. He went on for about 45 minutes and people actually started to leave and one by one so did D'Arcy and James Iha and Jimmy...until it was just Billy up there displaying self -indulgence like no other....I was really disappointed....I had been so excited to see them and was ready to sing my heart out to every song and we were robbed....I think overall they played about 7 songs and then about 90 minutes of complaining and playing awful.

I gotta say I still love 'em for their music though!

peace
Every minute of last night is on my face today....
