60s Time Tunnel Tune(s) of the evening After listening to the news of the train catastrophe I really needed some uplifting tunes.
Dialed over to K-Earth to see what tune i'd pick for this evening. Here's the sequence of tunes they played... Because - The Dave Clark Five Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You - The Four Seasons I Should Have Known Better - The Beatles Midnight Train To Georgia - Gladys Knight & The Pips Think - Aretha Franklin She's Not There - The Zombies Baby Love - The Supremes Don't Worry Baby - The Beach Boys Uptight - Stevie Wonder (at this point i'm ready to stop the car, get out and start dancing in the street) Luckily Reverend Al came on next to chill me out with Let's Stay Together. All great tunes. You pick one out of this bunch! tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I must go with Baby Love, although I think Think (lol) is probably a close second for me. And damn if Don't Worry Baby is just about the only Beach Boys song to mention surfing that really transcends its era. What a classic. *Sigh* They just don't make music like that anymore.
Oddly I never managed to like Midnight Train To Georgia, much. They should have played The Spencer Davis Group - Gimme Some Lovin' - that's a damn good endorphin rush right there. [Edited 1/26/05 19:57pm]

Hard to believe that's a 16 year old Steve Winwood playing all that organ and singing with that much soul. The thing that gets me about Midnight Train To Georgia, outside of Gladys herself, is the storyline and the background parts... And I'll be with him (I know you will) On that midnight train to Georgia, (Leavin' on the midnight train....woo wooooo) Love those "woo wooooo"s. Along with Don't Worry Baby, The Warmth Of The Sun is another of my favorite Beach Boys ballads. And you're absolutely right on the money when you said, "They just don't make music like that anymore." A crying shame is what it is. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. she's not there-the zombies
i like the others but i've heard them so much. i don't really know music lingo but i really like the arrangement of "she's not there". somebody else did this over and i don't know who it was i know he was black tho. when i hear it i keep picturing some beatnics sitting at a table in a spoken word cafe or something saying something like "yeeeah i'm hip, i'm hip" its just my imagination. i think i watch too many cartoons with the kids. Tough choice, but Uptight would be my pick. I love the bass line. Certianly not Jamerson's best, but it drives that song all day long.
I have always felt that the Pips' backup vocals on Midnight Train To Georgia are some of the best in pop history, however. [Edited 1/26/05 22:20pm] a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

'Tis all. but i know what song he's talkin' about. once again didn't know who the artist was!

Oh, (assume Emily Latella voice)....nevermind. They didn't play that tune in the sequence yesterday morning. It's a good one. Used to have the 45 back in the day. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."
