70s soul classic of the day: "Tired Of Being Alone" by Al Green (1971)

This is one of the first songs I remember hearing as a child! My parents had the album 'Al Green Gets Next To You' and they played this song constantly.I heard it so much that I knew all the words, lol. It's my all-time favorite Al Green song....this is real soul music at it's best! Teena Marie once said that, when she heard this song as a child,it inspired her to pursue a career in music. My only complaint about this song is that it's too short.Al should have extended this track to six minutes or so...lol...it deserves a longer version!

Tired Of Being Alone

(written by Al Green)

I'm so tired of being alone
I'm so tired of on-my-own
won't you help me girl
just as soon as you can

People say that I've found a way
to make you say
that you love me
But baby, you didn't go for that
me,it's a natural fact
that I wanna come back
show me where it's at,baby

I'm so tired of being alone
I'm so tired of on-my-own
won't you help me girl
just as soon as you can

I guess you know that I,uh
love you so
even though you don't want me no more
hey,hey,hey,I'm cryin' tears
all through the years
I tell it like it is
honey,love me if you can

Yeah baby
tired of being alone here by myself
I tell ya,I'm tired baby
I'm tired of being all wrapped up late at night
in my dreams, nobody but you baby

Sometimes I wonder
if you love me like you say you do
you see baby,I've been thinking about you
I've been wanting to get next to you, baby
sometimes I hold my arms and I say
Mmmmm hmmmm hmmmm
Oh baby, needing you has proven to me
to be my greatest dream

I'm so tired of being alone
I'm so tired of on-my-own
(you don't know what I'm talkin about)
I'm so tired of being alone
(sometimes late at night I get to wonderin' about you baby)
I'm so tired of being alone
I'm so tired of on-my-own
I'm so tired of being alone

music

btw,Al has a new CD due in March,I believe

I remember seeing him perform this song on soul train and I'm thinkin to myself why in the hell is he carrying a purse. But yeah he and Willie Mitchell made some of the best R&B songs, that why I just cringe when I hear the shit that passes for music today it has really gotten sad. Can you imagine any of this so-call artist surviving in the 70's

This particular album opens with Al's version of the Temptations classic "Can't Get Next To You" and it is just incredible!! In fact,I prefer it to the Temps original.

My only complaint about this song is that it's too short.

Great example of the Green/Mitchell connection.

That's the beauty of a great pop record.
3 to 4 minutes of audio ecstasy.
