My favorite Grammy moment was Ricky Martin's Cup of Life performance. headbang

Oh yeah that was probably THE defining star-making performance. He tried to duplicate it the next year but it fell flat.

Same with Mary J and her "No More Drama" performance. Her Grammy performance was inspired, but since that time when she performed the song she tried to duplicate the performance and it always ended up coming of as paroditic.

I remember when I was little, growing up watching The Grammys in the 70's. And the American Music Awards. It was so cool then. It was always E,W & F vs The Commodores for best something. And me, although I loved both bands, was always
shouting at the t.v. screen "What about Parliament?!" Anyway, my faves are when MJ cleaned house in 83 for "Thriller" and in 85 when P performed "Baby, I'm A Star" live and won for "best rock performance" for "Purple Rain".

Madonna 2001: performing Music

donna looked like the dork-geek she really is without nikki during madge's last tour....ms. garrett did not fit personality wise at all..

what was up with donna not touring? anyone know?

I think donna is pretty shrug

There are many stories going around why nikki didn't go. apparently she wrote on her website that she wanted to do her own work and performing and that singing backup was gonna distract her.

Then others say that madonna just didn't invite her.

donna is pretty..but her facial features betray and her and make her look dorky.....at least with nikki there theres a nice balance between cool and dork and their combined chemistry pulls it off...they are the perfect balance for madge..

but garret..she just didnt work it (for me)...

yes i thought it was weird not having nikki along. it's more traditional and they seemed friendly with each other. but on the last tour donna stood along and it just wasn't a happy time for her.

i thought she did UnInvited that way? confuse

I thought so too, but wasnt completely sure. I remember her twitching her head around as if she had Tourettes syndrome. Great performance though!

In 1999 Alanis Per4med "Uninvited" on The Grammy's and did do the whole "bobble head" thing she does and sounded great, but "You Oughta Know" was in '96. The per4mance was later released on the import single of "Ironic"

How about MJ's 1988 Grammy Performance of The Way You Make Me Feel and Man In The Mirror? The perfect balance between power and elegance, imnsho.

Yeah since Prince decided to be difficult and not perform that year...

Neither did U2.

Yes, This was also one of the greatest performances. I remember this one very well. He performed a very strong Man In The Mirror.

Not exactly. The first half is lipsynched with live backing vocals, the second part is all live vocals. Too bad the mic level isn't great throughout it, cause it's one of his best live vocal performances i've witnessed (just watched it again :d)

actully at first Niki had no idea there was going to be a tour. she found out through her webmaster who also happened to run a Madonna message board. after the tour started she changed her tune to i didn't want to go.

I've always thought Niki was a ham. and i have a few concerts where Madonna has told Niki to be quiet on stage and not try to steal the show. Also Niki has a bit of a weight issue. Niki also was very vocal about not like the direction of DWT. Madonna may have just felt like Niki wasn't needed as much. besides the gospel solo i don't think Niki was missed.

Donna Sideah and Madge do have a common bond of yoga and all three did sport the red string

How dare you dog Niki in such a fashion (mock indignation). I really think she is missed on tours. It's like 3 sisters together. Or maybe I'm a traditionalist.

I would have like to Donna Niki and Madonna. I've grown up with that trio, but sometimes things don't work out. At least Mike Mcknight was there, and he's the bomb
