We Are The Future

To help the Tsunami victims, the recording of "We Are The World" will be re-released and all the proceeds will go to that. On the same note, Quincy Jones and Jermaine Dupri has postponed the recording of "We Are The Future" which is a follow-up to "We Are The World". Dupri said the timing was wrong. They plan to record the song on Feb. 14, the day after the Grammy awards. They want to have a session including all the artists who will be involved with The Grammys. Looks like u know who (Prince) will have another chance to participate since he skipped out on the first group recording. Anyway, who was your favorite vocal performance from "We Are The World"? Lionel Richie? Michael and Diana? Willie Nelson? Mine was Steve Perry of Journey. Always loved that part of the song. Who's was yours?
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."

I always loved Cyndi Lauper's little screaming thing
"whoa whoa whoa whoa
Let us realize that a change can only come
When we stand together as one"
I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

back then it was cool because they had a mix of older established artists along with whomever was currently hot...I think this new version is going to be a bunch of corny pop acts that are out right now and nobody throwback....I doubt they will catch the same feel of the first one.
I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not taína. Taíno is in me, but there is no way back.
I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there.
I am new. History made me. My first language was spanglish.
And I am

we are the world is something that cannever be done, to its magnitude before
why couldn't they give money out of their own pockets instead of trying to make us give by buying this corny record

i hope prince doesn't participate, and i think it's a safe bet that he won't. though if he contributed another song to a charity comp album, that wouldn't suck. smile

the dude has his own ways of being philanthropic, and it seems his methods usually don't tend to include a lot of publicity that spotlights what an amazingly great and charitable guy he is...i find that to be pretty admirable.

There were so many great parts. It was and still is an awesome song but my favorite would have to be Cyndi Lauper as well.

We are the world

Written and composed by michael jackson and lionel richie
(usa for africa)

Lionel richie
There comes a time when we heed a certain call

Lionel richie & stevie wonder
When the world must come together as one

Stevie wonder
There are people dying

Paul simon
And it’s time to lend a hand to life

Paul simon & kenny rogers
The greatest gift of all

Kenny rogers
We can’t go on pretending day by day

James ingram
That someone, somewhere will soon make a change

Tina turner
We are all part of god’s great big family

Billy joel
And the truth, you know, love is all we need

Chorus:
Michael jackson
We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving

Diana ross
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives

Michael & diana ross
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

Dionne warwick
Send them your heart
So they’ll know that someone cares

Dionne warwick & willie nelson
And their lives will be stronger and free

Willie nelson
As God has shown us by turning stones to bread

Al jarreau
So we all must lend a helping hand

Chorus:
We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving

Bob dylan
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

Michael jackson
When you’re down and out, there seems no hope at all

Huey lewis
But if you just believe there’s no way we can fall

Cindy lauper
Well, well, well, well let us realize that a change can only come

Kim carnes
When we stand together as one

Chorus:
We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving

There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day

I agree up to a point. P has always given back. And it isn't blasted all over "Access Hollywood". True. BUT, man, back in 85, P was hotter than the sun. Quincy would have been so excited, he would have wanted P to do a guitar solo. That's one more selling point. P was known for guitar then cuz of Purple Rain. People would have ate that up and P would have came up smelling like roses instead of the backlash he ended up getting. Just my thought. But anyway, u still didn't say what your fave vocal part was.

I thought Prince didn't play with the rest of the artist on the track because his body guard got in to some trouble. That's the story I've heard for the longest.

P's bodyguards did get into trouble for roughing up a photographer for trying to get into P's limo at Carlos And Charlie's resturaunt. BUT, this took place long after the "We Are The World" session at A&M Studios had already started and P had already declined to show.

zzzzz, "voices that care" is a better charity song. Is Michael on it again?

Nah, I'd go with Stevie Wonder.....he was at the end "dueling" it out with Bruce Springsteen if I can remember?

I still preach that "voices that care" is a charity song more appropriare and more ORIGINAL!

Miss Lauper was on fire too I have to say.....Al jarreau sounded a bit crap.....Latoya Jackson was there yet no solo? Disgrace.....

I know several people who actually thought that Dylan's part was Eddie Murphy doing his "Buckwheat" imitation, lol (don't know how they missed the video)...

I always liked Ray's too, God bless him. The thing about this song is that everyone singing, u could tell, were all sincere. I think it was beautiful that everyone came together like that. You could hear they were all on the same wavelenght. The same vibe. After all these years, it still gives me goosebumps when I hear it. Quincy did a great job producing.
