70s soft rock classic of the day: "I Can't Tell You Why" by the Eagles (1979)

music

I Can't Tell You Why

(written by Glenn Frey,Don Henley and Timothy Schmit)

Look at us baby,up all night
tearin' our love apart
Aren't we the same two people who live
through years in the dark,ah

Everytime I try to walk away
something makes me turn around and stay
And I can't tell you why

When we get crazy,it just ain't right
(try to keep your head little girl)
Girl,I get lonely too
You don't have to worry, just hold on tight
(don't get caught in your little world)
cause I love you

Nothing's wrong as far as I can see
we make it harder than it has to be
and I can't tell you why,no baby
I can't tell you why
I can't tell you why

Everytime I try to walk away
something makes me turn around and stay
and I can't tell you why,no,no,baby
I can't tell you why
I can't tell you why
I can't tell you why

music

Yeah the lyrics are pretty simplistic, but there is no denying the soulful elegance of this song. It's a beautiful song from one of my favorite bands.

LOVE this song. I like jsut about any EAgles classic...but this song is one of their best. Timothy Schmidt didn't get enough lead vocal time in my opinion....

By the way, speaking of Esgles, I love Glenn Frey..."You Belong to the CIty" has been one of my recent guilty pleasures (I used to love the video-haven't seen it in a while...)

Agreed. The Eagles are GREAT.I couldn't decide if this thread should be devoted to "Best Of My Love","Take It To The Limit" or "I Can't Tell you Why".I like so many of their songs!

Indeed. And several R&B artists have recorded remakes of this song (Howard Hewitt,Brownstone, etc).

Best of My Love....aaaaah cloud9 ....one of Don Henley's "sexiest vocal" performances...it's kinda seductive...lol. THe Eagles also do a great rendition of Henley's NEW YORK MINUTE - I think it sounds better live with the Eagles than DOn's solo studio version.

The Eagles are not one of my favorite groups, but I really do like this song. I think it's one of their best vocal efforts. I even like the Brownstone remake.

This is a fantastic song. I love the Eagles. Glen Frey's solo work is not bad either.

I've been thinking about getting that compilation. If you want all the hits in one place, you can't go wrong with that set.I have their box set and it's cool, but the songs are not in chronological order and that irritates me,lol.

God I love this song-so well crafted.

Great band as well-shame Don Felder isn't involved anymore.

Yeah, that is a nice cut.I only own the greatest hits stuff by them ,but I like it all. More old cuts I olike from that era are "baker street" and "right down the line" by Jerry rafferty.
