Best Live Performance On CD/or Album......

What's the best live performance you heard on CD/or album?????

And you can listen to it over & over?????

For me, its Sam Cooke & The Soul Stirrers performing
"Nearer My GOD To Thee".....

There are two other performances they did,
("I Have A Friend, Who's Above All Others" & "Be With Me Jesus")

All three are great, but,"Nearer To Thee", just does something to me.....

Darn shame that there was no film on this performance.....

The Entire 'Under a Blood Red Sky' CD by U2, particularly Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Year's Day.

Cover Me and Because the Night on Bruce Springsteen's Live 1975-1985.

David Bowie's The Width of a Circle on Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

* Prince : the small clubs
* Blaze foley: live at the Austin outhouse
* Willie nelson & friends : stars & guitars ; outlaws & angels
* Johnny Cash : Live at San Quentin
* Bob Dylan : unplugged
* Willie Nelson & Johnny Cash : VH1 Storytellers
* David bowie : live @ the beeb (limited edition 3rd cd)
It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

Naw, I wish there was a live version(at least, I don't think there is...)I just thought about that tune when you mentioned the Stirrers...

Anxiety

to me, talking heads and bowie can do no wrong with their live album offerings...only exception perhaps being "david live", but even that album has its fans (and i think it's a fascinating document of bowie's poor health at the time, morbidly enough).

i'd like to include prince on this list, but he hasn't released a live recording yet that hasn't been fussed over to such an extent that it ends up, at best, a salvageable mish-mash.

Well, let a brotha' know if you ever come across one.....
But I think that those were the only live performances they did on vinyl.....

Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps and most of his Unplugged album
Nirvana's Wishkah and Unplugged albums are also pretty amazing
Thin Lizzy's Live and Dangerous album
Talking Heads Stop Making Sense and The Name of the Band is Talking Heads
The Velvet Underground Live (Vols 1 and 2)
Bob Dylan '75 (2nd cd of bootleg series vol.5)

Honourable mentions must go to Bob Marley Live! for No Woman No Cry and Rick James' live disc on Street Songs Deluxe Ediion featuring the magnificent Teena Marie. Still waiting on Prince to release a killer live disc hopefully the rumoured Unplugged album will be a start and Sly and the Family Stone would be nothing short of awesome.
