The unlikeliest of artists you're listening to.......

I'll begin with this group called Head Automatica. Surpsisingly, they're kinda funky and they rock in all the right places. That dude from Glassjaw is the lead singer, and this is just side project for him, but it's all good to me. nod

What about you guys? Are there any artists you're into that we wouldn't expect you to listen to?

I never thought I'd listen to cats like and Nirvana, Beck, and some others. I never thought I'd buy a Garth Brooks record, but I got the CD Single "Lost In You" when it dropped and it's one of my favorite songs ever.

I also didn't think I'd buy any country records, but I do have the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack.

Finally, I didn't care for Prince growing up. I thought he looked like a freak.

LOL, true Namepeace. I feel the same way. Good lyrics are good lyrics though, and that is what usually hooks me.

On further thought and reflection, I consider "The Black Album" is a hip-hop classic (for whatever my opinion's worth). Too many hot tracks on there to say otherwise!

I'm feeling Marc Anthony right now. Why is he the unlikeliest? I don't speak a word of Spanish, so I have no idea what he's talking about. Even stranger, I don't like his English language stuff.

That's for real. I dig Bebel Gilberto but I can't interpret what she's singing about.

Hmmm...I hope it's obvious that I listen to just about everything. smile Some others I've been known to listen to but that I don't often mention or mention only in passing (because there ain't many to discuss with here):

Pantera
Guns N Roses
Concrete Blonde (Bloodletting is one of my all-time favorite albums!)
Beethoven
film scores for old melodramas (Frank Skinner, Alfred Newman, Franz Waxman, Elmer Bernstein, Bernard Herrmann and others)
Imperial Teen

Also this "Rip. Sample. Mash. Share." cd that came in the Nov. 2004 issue of "Wired"
Acts like:

Zap Mama
Gilberto Gil
Le Tigre
Danger Mouse & Gemini

Just to name a few. biggrin These artists and others encourage people to sample these tunes.

for me, it has to be snoop dogg's R&G album. i never liked gangsta rap or any kind of rap accept for old skool shit. gangsta rap is so violent and degrading to women but when i heard "drop it like it's hot", i was hooked and decided to try the cd. surprisingly, it's really good. i try to block out the lyrics and focus more on the music since there are some dope beats on it.
