BEYONCE DREAM CASTING FOR ‘DREAMGIRLS’: Producers want singer to play Effie.



*The “Dreamgirls” role that Jennifer Holliday made famous on Broadway could soon be in the hands of Beyonce Knowles if the producers of the musical’s forthcoming film version have their way.


Word is the Destiny’s Child talent is being approached to play Effie White in the story about a Chicago singing trio’s crossover to the white-dominated pop charts in the early sixties. In the process of crossing over, lead singer Effie gets replaced by the more attractive Deena and is eventually dropped from the trio. When the success isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, the group reunites with Effie for one final number – the big “And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going” performance – before their eventual break-up.

“Chicago” screenwriter/director Bill Condon is reportedly in charge of the project and is rumored to want Jamie Foxx in the movie as well. Filming is expected to start as early as this summer.

Condon has not seen or discussed casting.....While Condon said he wasnt against casting Knowles he is currently *not* even considering who is playing who..

oh, and he reiterated his goal to cast two unkowns....

True, false, whatever. Beyonce would be fine in this movie, but NOT AS EFFIE! Effie requires somebody who can actually sing. My broadway connections have told me that they've been pursuing Beyonce for years now. If this had happened in 1997/98 (the last go-around of persistent rumors), Kelly Price was being considered and woulda been a good choice.

You know they're going to try their hardest to get around that somehow. It won't be right, but they'll try. Frenchie would be good, but from what I've heard she's proving to be quite a handful (late for shows, lots of attitude, etc.).

I watched a taped version of the 2001 show. Heather Hedley was doing a dance move - in a small dress with panty hose but no undies - and oops...beaver in the front row's face. We could not stop laughing.
