Do I really need Erotica and Music by Madonna?

If I have greatest hits v.2?

I have all other cds of hers but those two. And it seems liek V.2 GH has the best cuts form the two albums. I was not feling Music material. Erotica appears to be like her black album deep cuts release.

Erotica YES
GHV2 only has 2 crappy edits of stuff from Erotica

Get it for: Bad Girl, Rain, Why's it so Hard, Theif of Hearts, Fever, In This Life etc

Music, depends on your madonna fanship. It includes Impressive Instant, which is an awesome dance track. And it has Gone and I deserve it which are 2 beautiful ballads.
But GHV2 has the 3 main singles from Music in their full versions, so it's really up to you

The edits are pretty bad, aren't they? Deeper & Deeper is so much better in its album form. You can't really edit that song w/o screwing it up.

It's more about what you're missing, for me, though:

-Bad Girl
-Rain
-Waiting
-In This Life
-Secret Garden

There are so many great tracks you're missing if you just get GHV2.

Thanks for the info. Erotic was edited? It must be longer on the album then. Oh and I have Rain from her Something To Remember but thats like a one off album and inconvienent to put on. I guess I will defintely get Erotica.

Erotica was edited by about 40 seconds for GHV2 - it's actually the Radio Edit, if I recall correctly.

GHV2 was a pretty crappy collection. She honestly whipped that up in less than 5 minutes, which is pretty sad.
Hopefully they'll get the box set thing going and get a career spanning definitive collection.

I like GHV2....granted, yes a box set is needed and a GH always leaves something out, but, for the most part, for a GH they did ok imo.

i got GHV2 as a xmas gift that year.

Erotica is a must have.

but i like the Sex edit of Erotica called Erotic which is the version used on the WO mix.

Music is good to. It's the transition from ROL to AL. I think it's need to appreicate the differences between the two. Also the opening three tracks are soo much fun.

What they said above.

Erotica=YES
Music=NO

Erotica is a staple in any Madonna collection...She lost me around Ray of Light, then came Music...oh, and American Life, wasn't feeling that either. I think I am done with her new stuff unless she comes out with a slammin' record, but I fear she has become too English/British to be funky again...C'mon she write childrens books now, she's a mom...she's no longer into challenging the masses.

Erotica should definitely be in your shopping cart; Bad Girl, Waiting, Words, and Thief of Hearts alone make it a worthy purchase. Music was the first Madonna album that disappointed me; some of the lyrics are beyond garbage and the vocoder effect is overused in a few songs. That said, there are about 5 or 6 "winners" on the Music album.

Erotica is a must-have Madonna album. Unfortunately, this was the period in Madonna's career where her image greatly overshadowed her music. She had only herself to blame, but Erotica is a great album that is nowhere as tawdry as the hype from the Madonna camp and the press would have you believe when it was initially released. It also had a few excellent remixes; the single version of Fever was much better than the album version. Personally, I like Music as well, but on the whole Erotica is a much better work.

That's the Edit One remix, which is unfortunately only available on 1 obscure maxi-single - the German release of "Rain".

Yeah, it's hard to find now, but was readily available when it was initially released. I'm pretty sure I picked mine up at Sam Goody many years back.

Definitely buy Erotica; it's Madonna's best album IMO (though Like a Prayer is also a solid contender).

Like some others in this thread, I too felt GHV2 was a disaster. I didn't buy that one.

Nope, you're not the only one.I love that CD too lol

Songs like "Impressive Instant","I Deserve It","Gone","What It Feels Like For A Girl","Gone" and the title track are top-notch.But I can understand why this CD gets mixed reviews from fans. The music throughout is very experimental, mixing different genres that don't always blend well together.I think it's her most unique-sounding album.

you must really like that song lol

But i did not dislike music at all. It was a very good dance album from Madonna. It is very closely related to her first album, where she returns to her days in the club.
Lyrically Gone and I deserve it are her best. Runnaway Lover was silly, as was AMazing but they were still good dance tracks.

I think there are only two filler songs on this disc..."Runaway Lover" (a mediocre dance track in search of a hook) and "Amazing".The other songs are very interesting.I think this album was an acquired taste. It took me awhile to really "get" it.

Erotica was Madonna's Dirty Mind.

Music was a sequel to Ray Of Light....but better.
