Henry Rollins? Somebody educate me: WHY is this dude famous? I used to think he was a singer @ one point... then a poet or something... Now I'm seeing him on IFC hosting "Henry's Film Corner".
I know I could just look him up but feel free to shed some light on who this dude is & why he seems to have his fingers in every facet of the arts (or so it seems)... I DO like the fact that he's reviewing I Robot & saying it SUCKS!! He calls the robots "man-bitch cartoons" . [Edited 1/23/05 2:44am]

I've been in love with him 4ever!
no matter what...long live HR Every minute of last night is on my face today....

HR is definitely an interesting man. I wouldn't call myself a fan but I do follow him a bit. Don't care too much anymore for the music he puts out lately, but he was a pioneer back in the day. He's pretty outspoken about almost everything, sometimes that's funny and I respect that!

Lead singer with seminal/infamous LA hardcore punk band, Black Flag. Key albums: Damaged, My War, Slip It In, Who's Got The 10 1/2? 2). Solo performer with Rollins Band, largely mining the same metal/punk musical seam as Black Flag, although there have been forays into funk/rock/jazz. Live shows are all exceptionally intense. I've never seen a bad Rollins Band gig, despite line-up changes galore and sometimes indifferent or hostile audiences. I've been going to his gigs since 1988. Key albums: End of Silence, Weight, Hard Volume 3). Rollins is more popular - commercially - as a spoken word performer. He's exceptionally funny, in the Bill Hicks/Dennis Leary vein, only without the toxins. Rollins espouses clean living and pumping iron. Key album: The Boxed Life, Get In The Van 4). Rollins is also an author of numerous self-published books, which are mostly in the form of tour diaries. These are hit and miss, but Get In The Van, his Black Flag tour diary and a book called Unwelcome Songs about the early days of the Rollins Band are well worth the stretch. Rollins is an acquired taste. I love him. Go to www.21361.com. and http://members.cox.net/_rollins for further info. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Black Flag is awesome. Solo Henry Rollins is a'ight. And he's easy on the eyes.

I'm a big fan of Rollins myself, unfortunately I've never been able to catch him live. Have any of you heard his "duet" with William Shatner (called 'I Can't Get Behind That', from Shatner's CD "Has Been")? It's pretty damn cool! If I want your opinion, I'll beat it outta ya!

No, the "acting" is his weak spot. Very one dimensional. Stick with the humour. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Gotta give it up for rollins
Additional question for those who know more than me: did rollins ever actually play an instrument or write music? i know he was a lyricist but was he a composer?

I don't think Rollins has ever been recorded playing an instrument, and I don't think he's written any of the music on his albums. He leaves that to others. There are three sides to every story. LIAR
You think you’re gonna to live your life alone In darkness And seclusion Yeah I know You’ve been out there Tried to mix with those animals And it just left you full of humiliated confusion So you stagger back home And wait for nothing But the solitary refinement of your room spits you back out onto the street And now you’re desperate And in need of human contact And then You meet me And you whole world changes Because everything I say is everything you’ve ever wanted to hear So you drop all your defenses and you drop all your fears And you trust me completely I’m perfect In every way Cause I make you feel so strong and so powerful inside You feel so lucky But your ego obscures reality And you never bother to wonder why Things are going so well You wanna know why? Cause I’m a liar Yeah I’m a liar I’ll tear your mind out I’ll burn your soul I’ll turn you into me I’ll turn you into me Cause I’m a liar, a liar A liar, a liar I’ll hide behind a smile And understanding eyes And I’ll tell you things that you already know So you can say I really identify with you, so much And all the time that you’re needing me Is just the time that I’m bleeding you Don’t you get it yet? I’ll come to you like an affliction And I’ll leave you like an addiction You’ll never forget me You wanna know why? Cause I’m a liar Yeah I’m a liar I’ll rip your mind out I’ll burn your soul I’ll turn you into me I’ll turn you into me Cause I’m a liar, a liar Liar, liar, liar, liar I don’t know why I feel the need to lie And cause you so much pain Maybe it’s something inside Maybe it’s something I can’t explain Cause all I do Is mess you up and lie to you I’m a liar Oh, I am a liar If you’ll give me one more chance I swear that I will never lie to you again Because now I see the destructive power of a lie They’re stronger than truth I can’t believe I ever hurt you I swear I will never to you lie again, please Just give me one more chance I will never lie to you again I swear That I will never tell a lie I will never tell a lie No, no Ha ha ha ha ha hah haa haa haa haaa Sucker Sucker! Oh, sucker I am a liar Yeah, I am a liar Yeah I like it I feel good Ohh I am a liar Yeah I lie I lie I lie Oh, I lie Oh I lie I lie Yeah Ohhh I’m a liar I lie Yeah I like it I feel good I’ll lie again And again I’ll lie again and again And I’ll keep lying I promise "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven
