Madonna Is Suing Dre, Eve, & Mary J

I read that Madonna is suing Dre, Eve, Mary J. for copyright infridgement of her song Holiday. Perhaps, she does have a point b/c the lryical pattern of the song of Not Today did sound like her song. What do you guys think about this?

Why? The chorus features the phrase "not today" sung with the same enunciation as the word "holiday".

Fuckin' ridiculous.

hahaha..

Mary's chorus goes like this:
(Promises) you told me every day
(That you made) you never ever kept
(By me) I really want to believe
But not today, not today, not today, not today

The stuff in brackets is the stuff that sounds like "Ho-li-day-ee" and I tried to transplant those lines "Promises... that you made" into Madonna's instrumental so you can hear how similar that is.

CORRECTION: Holiday & Lucky Star were Madonna-penned songs from her debut album.

But I think WB Music Group is more at fault than Dr. Dre because WB owns THE master tapes/CDs of Madonna-related music. And they could have made a deal with Dre without having to tell Madonna anything.

It's not the first time WB have done this.

Years earlier, WB cut a deal with MC Hammer to use "When Doves Cry" to create "Pray" and Prince was the very last person to know about it.

If you don't own your masters, you masters will own you! cool

CORRECTION: Holiday was written by Hudson & Stevens. It's the only track on the record that she did NOT have a hand in writing.

and CORRECTION: when a sample is replayed or resung, you only need clearance from the publishers, not the masters

I quickly back checked the info on allmusic.com. You're right. I wrong! wink

Either way, there is nothing that Madonna can do about it because she doesn't own the masters or the publishing. neutral

disbelief You don't know your Madonna. Check out the ASCAP website or All Music for confirmation that she did wink

P.S. I don't know why the credits have changed since the original LP does not list her as a writer, so I understand why you might think she wasn't. But apparently she is now. lol
