I was watching Taxi Driver about two months ago, and the scene where Travis watches American Bandstand reminded me that, when I'm in the proper mood, I really love Jackson Browne's first four albums. Mellow, 1970s-era sensitive singer-songwriter types usually fill me with revulsion and disgust, but I find Browne tolerable, and when he's at his best he can be extremely effective - thoughtful without being sappy, and subtly tuneful.

But you'll never, ever get me to own up to that in the real world...
