A Really Bad Idea

Apologies if this is a repost:

"The Osbournes Plan What May Be The Worst Charity Single Ever Wednesday January 19, 2005 @ 03:30 PM
By: ChartAttack.com Staff

Apparently big celebrity singalongs are all the rage this season * getting a hodgepodge group of musicians together to sing a song in a manner resembling 12-year-old girls that finish each other's sentences * how could it not work?

Following in the footsteps of 1985's dueling charity singles "Do They Know It's Christmas?" and "We Are The World" (the former was recently re-recorded by the next generation of Brit-pop stars [and Bono] and the latter is looking at a hip-hop/R&B remake later this year) a new musical collaboration is in the works.

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, MTV's favourite celebrity couple this side of Nick and Jessica, are continuing their efforts to help out the tsunami-ravaged nations in Asia. That's great and everything, but the single they're piecing together sounds like it may be the least listenable one yet.

The couple have lined up an incredibly weird and mismatched group of musicians to contribute, including Gwen Stefani, Rod Stewart, Velvet Revolver, Elton John, Pink, Stephen Tyler, Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban and Robbie Williams. Plus, of course, the Ozman himself, with daughter Kelly in tow. This unholy collective will tackle a cover version of Eric Clapton's, "Tears In Heaven" * the one about his dead four-year-old son * and will be produced by Sharon and American Idol's head grump, Simon Cowell.

On the plus side, all the profits will head on over to the Disasters Emergency Committee's Tsunami Earthquake Appeal. The Osbourne family has already donated over $190,000 to the charity, along with a PSA urging others to help."

This sounds like a big ol' mess.

Wouldn't it be a much bigger gesture if they wrote an original song that was actually relevant to the topic? I guess the crew they assembled isn't exactly known for songwriting talent, but I'm sure with their starpower, they could at least hire someone capable.

I fail to see how a song about a child falling from a window is relevant to a natural disaster, but that just might be me.
