I don't understand who makes up these playlists?
What time period did they grow up in? The local station - which is part of some huge conglomerate - plays very little current music & tons of "classic" rock. Their idea of classic rock is primarily Journey, Supertramp, Cheap Trick, Boston, Elton John, Billy Joel & Rush. This is the core music & if you listen to the station for at least 2 hours you will hear those acts repeatedly. Its like some nerd from the 80's does all the programing.

Oh they have plenty of stations that play nothing but current music. That's why the current musical style hasn't changed since they got their hand in radio. That's why I want to see them go down. If you think about it, back in the 60's & 70's, most of the rock artists were listening to R&B, jazz, soul, classical, and especially blues. But nowadays those genres can be a lot harder to find because all most of the stations seem to play is classic rock. SO now all the kids in bands coming up today, they ONLY listen to rock, and thus get a really one dimensional perspective on music. Now I REALLY hate Clear Channel. Not only to they play the SAME shitty music over and over but they're partially responsible for making it shitty as well.

Satellite Radio. I love my XM. I really hope internet radio gives "traditional" radio stations / clear channel a hard time financially, to force them to change their formats. Until it hits em in the pocket, they're not changing anything.

really, i'm my own radio. sometimes i'll listen to NPR while i'm getting ready for work or when i'm cleaning my apartment, but when i want to listen to music, i am my own format production manager technician committee specialist. when i'm at work, my CD wallet is my radio station. but some nights i just don't feel like digging for CDs, so i hear what my co-workers are listening to on radio, and i'm appalled at how clear channel has ruined radio, and how the people who listen to it regularly don't even notice how frighteningly crap it is.

Anxiety said: All I know is, if they don't stop playing that Smokey Nostril "I Need You Now" song ten times a night, I'm going to have permanent brain damage by the time I leave that job. I even mentioned it to my co-worker who listens to the station, and she just giggled and said she liked the song and thought it was "cute" that they played it too much.
Holy shit! Smokey Nostril!!! But then again, she watches Teflo Dollar sermons on her downtime, so... Oh, and interestingly enough....the same radio station has been playing "Call My Name" to death over the past couple of weeks.

I've never really looked at it from a rock point of view but you have good points as well. From an R&B point of view, R&B sounded different in every decade from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. From each decade, it progressed, styles changed, and it moved on to the next phase. During these years, there was blues, doo wop groups, the Motown era, soul, funk, disco, rap, house, etc. When midtempo hip hop started totally dominating R&B in the early 1990s, Clear Channel came in the picture and started buying up all the stations. If you notice, R&B has gone for 15 years without a real style change. That's longer than ever before. Not only is the same music played over and over for mind control, but they also can control what gets played or doesn't buy owning so many stations. Therefore, an artist with a new or different style of R&B, that does not fit within their hip hop influenced R&B format, never sees the light of day. If you think about it, today's R&B is very cheap to make and can be made at a quicker pace because instruments don't have to be bought and musicians don't have to be paid. Even though they can make it very quickly, they still milk every last single they can before an artist releases a new album. It's all about big business and money nowadays rather than music.
