INXS Reality Show - looking for the new lead singer

INXS is holding auditions for the next singer for their band. They'll be looking for the singer via a new reality show, "Rock Star" where, I'm guessing it'll be something like American Idol and Bands On the Run (r.i.p.).

And, man, there's just NO WAY I'd ever appear on a reality show about anything,

but...

but...

OH WHO AM I KIDDING?

I sent them links to 3 of my songs and they called me back 3 hours later to schedule a private audition this FRIDAY! (the open audition is on Thursday, they want me to skip that and move up up to the "not sucking as much" round!)

Now, I remember reading about the INXS reality show HERE awhile back, and I wrote a long essay on here about how, "oh how the mighty have fallen, it's a sad sad thing to see them whore themselves like this, and there's no way I'd ever blah blah it's just lame"

BUT DAMN! The auditions are 3 blocks from my house! HOW can I say NO!??

Just thought I'd post the news about INXS selling themselves out, and me selling myself out just for them!!

I AM A HO!

oh - and one of the links I sent to them was my cover of "Life Can Be So Nice" - I KNOW you've heard it by now, I just won't shut up about it:

Personally I dont think they should do this!! In some ways its an insult 2 Michael Hutchence!! NO-ONE can ever replace him!! Michael was INXS and INXS was Michael!!

I beleive that they should just leave well alone and cease as a band and just leave us INXS fans with fond memories of what used 2 b!! neutral neutral

nod They really should've left well enough alone when they did the farewell tribute concert featuring Sanada(TTD) which was excellent 5 years ago. After that show, they did not need to perform any more of Inxs stuff but I guess the guys got damn greedy.

But why? My own personal gain aside, think about the surviving five members of the band. These guys rock. These guys write kickass rock and roll. Why should they pack it all in and go play golf just because the lead singer moved on? I'm not being callous here, I'm saying, PRIOR to Michael joining the band, these guys had a band called the Farriss Brothers. And if they changed the name back, and picked somebody else to sing for them, you know that everybody would still call them INXS, hell, the record company would probably put stickers on the records saying, "YOU KNOW THEM AS INXS!"

At first I was put off by the idea of these guys going forward, but seriously, if the band sucked and Michael Hutchence was ALL that made them sound good, then, yeah, the dudes are lame. But that's not the case. These guys were, in my mind, the next Rolling Stones - straight up in that vein of blues funky rock. I would bet that ANYBODY would sound great playing with them.

ANd lastly.

The application on the site insist that you bring YOUR songs to the competition, which says to me, "we're looking for somebody to collaborate with, to continue making music, NOT just to be an INXS tribute band". AND! When they called me, they specificially said, on the audition, NO INXS songs.

SO there you go. I love INXS. THe music, the vocals, the lyrics, everything about them rocks my balls. MIchael Hutchence's life was short and painful, and it's a shame that he died right at the release of a great new album by them (Elegantly Wasted. Go listen to it NOW). If I DID win this thing, (which I'm betting wont happen, but, just go with me here, IF...) I would be there to contribute my kickass songs, to enjoy the second greatest funky rock band in the world. (Stones #1! reprazent!)

Hotlegs you got me confused, first you said:

So I understand you, just like me, loved the performance of INXS and Sananda. But than you agree with Bierman, when he's dissing Sananda and INXS.

Bierman is just trying to get on Serious' her nerves.

INXS and Michael Hutchence were one, just like Freddie Mercury, John Deacon & Queen were one.

There is no Queen without John Deacon and especcialy without Freddie. There is no INXS without Michael.

It was nice to see and hear the performances of other artists with Queen in memory of Freddie, they should have left it with that.
I loved the performance of Sananda and INXS for it was great as Sananda is a great singer and performer, INXS should also have left it with that.

The other side of that though is that this is going to put INXS back out there and may get new fans to go get the work that Michael did with the band. I love INXS too much to think about not seeing them again and they ROCKED when I seen them with Jon Stevens. So they're the ones that had to go through this loss and if they feel they need to do this then I wish them the best.

Otan, i just listened to your version of Life Can Be So Nice, not many people can do a Prince cover that great, but you my friend, that was EXCELLENT.
I loved it, awesome work, love your voice.
Good Luck with your audition, i love INXS and just hearing you do that Prince song, me thinks you would be a great lead for a great band.
Go Funk them out at your audition.
WHY SHOULD I DO THAT, WHEN I CAN DO THIS

Thanks 269.

I was talking to my best friend last night and we were talking about all the what-ifs - like - what if they DID pick me? What if they dont?

Honestly, I just want INXS to have a kickass new singer so they can go on making more great music. If it's me or some dude from Kansas who can pony up the right stuff that makes the band better, whatever. If they DID pick me, it wouldn't be because I can do Michael Hutchence's voice. I would want the band to plan AHEAD - not go out on the road doing nothing but old INXS songs, (have you seen Journey with the new lead singer who sings just like the old dude? I don't think they're doing new music anymore). I want INXS to put out more albums. And tour supporting THOSE new albums.

So, now, if that next INXS album happens to have awesome songs like, She's Too Rich For Me, Oh Face, Superhot Ladycop, and Can I Get Some Lovin, well, I bet that album would rock balls. But if they don't dig my songs, well, you'll just have to find those killer hits on MY next record!

So there you go. Glad you likes my song. I got tons of them.

Good luck on the audition Otan hope it all goes well for you.

That said I would like to state that I am a little disappointed that the boys of INXS are looking for another lead singer (and in this particular fashion, considering our TV sets are bombarded with enough reality shows). Australian music has really struggled to reach some form of credibility and acceptance, INXS was unique in its appeal and IMHO I think that conducting such a search is an insult to Michael. Michael was what made INXS so amazing, without him I doubt anyone would have even heard of the Farris brothers. I have seen INXS in concert with both Micheal and later with Jon Stevens (and although Noiseworks was and still is one of my favourite Oz bands) you could not compare the two - Michael was electric.

Thanks. BUT - Did you not read my essay up there about how much the BAND kicks that ass as well? And, what are you saying? They should pack it up now? No longer write/play/perform music? It's what they do. My biggest hope is that they pick somebody to sing with them who's NOT a Michael Hutchence clone... that would be the biggest mistake they can make.

Think about other bands who've changed singers. There's the early AC/DC, "Highway To Hell" stands out, and there's the later AC/DC, "You Shook Me All Night Long". Now, you're telling me that the second lineup of AC/DC shouldn't have happened, all because the singer died? I don't think so. AC/DC was a kickass band, not a kickass singer with just some dudes behind him. Same goes for INXS. The drummer? Badass. The keyboardist? Great songwriter. The guitarist? Attitude and killer funk chops. The sax player? That's what got my attention on "The Swing". So while I agree, MH was an amazing front man and definitely HELPED put the band on the map, go listen to his solo record, or to MAX-Q, his side project. Without INXS, he's as great a solo artist as Mick Jagger, Bono, whatever.

So, I still can't wait for INXS to get back to playing. And honestly, if this reality show just gets the band enough attention to pull in a real front man like Chris Cornell, or hell, any number of singers, so be it. Those guys definitely shouldn't quit making music just because Michael forgot to let go of the belt.

First of all, good luck Otan on the audition.Yeah Ac/dc went on and had big albums, but Brian Johnson is(was)no Bon Scott. That man,WAS rockn Roll.If Inxs changed the name of the band and continued, more power to em'But this show ain't gonna bring them back in the limelight(just my opinion)
