Zapp VI - Back by popular demand (2004)

So who got that album and what do you think about it?

For me and most other Zapp fans the group seemed to be over that sad day that Roger Troutman passed away. A new Zapp album without Roger? Intitially sounds absurd, like doing a new Indiana Jones movie without Harrison Ford. But anyway, I gave it a try. And well, after a few spins I'm still not fully convinced. Of course, they are able to recreate the talkbox vocals, the typical clapping rhythm tracks, even some harmonies and song stuctures sound more than just familiar. But still, something is missing... of course Rogers guitar licks are nowhere to be found, and I also would have enjoyed some kick-ass horn section every now and then.

Don't get me wrong, all in all it IS a very nice CD, and I DO enjoy it. But the magic from the old albums (most of them)? Well, maybe I'm just sentimental, but I didn't find it ...yet. But hey, I'll give it a few mores spins.

So what do you think about it?

http://www.zapptown.com/ also has some sound samples

Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

I'll be seeing Zapp in concert next week. It'll be bittersweet because I've never seen them without Roger.I hope they can pull it off.

What's missing is Roger and Larry.

The songs are okay, but the only thing really that makes them sound different than a lot of what's out there already is the talkbox. It's not bad, but it's just not Zapp.
