Deee-Lite (I AM STILL NOT OVER IT!)
Salt 'N' Pepa (WTF?)
Soul II Soul
Arrested Development
En Vogue
Aaliyah (R.I.P.)
The Fugees
Jane Child (Still here, but who's listening?)
Patra (Great second album...)
Paula Abdul (Music industry roadkill)

As for the post that mentioned Tevin Campbell, I suspected that his fall from grace had to do with him becoming a man with an obviously effeminate voice. I also suspected a problem marketing him to black consumers with that vibe. Either way, it's a PITIFUL waste of talent. Anyone know the real story?

Lauryn Hill---I thought she would become the biggest R&B/hip-hop female artist EVER! But then she just faded away into obscurity.

Lisa Stansfield

Babyface---ten years ago,he was the biggest R&B producer/songwriter in the business. These days, you barely hear anything from him.

Johnny Gill

Taylor Dayne---talented vocalist

and lauryn...but there's hope for lauryn.... maybe, if she can quit crazy cold turkey.

digable planets: I hear they may be staging a reunion. Thank goodness.

maxwell...hasn't blown up since the urban hang suite But he's still "around." Allegedly.

envogue (hang on...to your career) They had a great but brief run. When they took time off and then pursued solo careers that was all she wrote.

lisa stansfield (at least stateside) absolutely. i thought she'd be around for a while.

montel jordan (not a fan...but just thought he would do more than "this is how we do it") he released one or two r&b hits a few years ago. like you, i never thought much of him.

I always thought The Police had another decade in them. But they would have killed each other first.

The single "Fortunate" that Maxwell released two albums later was bigger than anything off 'Urban Hang Suite'. The single "Lifetime" was pretty big on U.S. urban radio as well. His problem is he takes too much damn time in bewteen albums.

SADE?????...dem fightin' words boxing

It's Sade's style not to be overexposed and when she does come out w/ her new CDs and tours....the floodgates of fans open..

speaking of Sade...I was debating whether I should add D'angelo to this list...I loved Brown Suga, but rarely play Voodoo...this may sound weird, but I couldn't understand what he was saying when he sung. So is D'angelo on this list or is he just pulling a Sade...maybe I have to checkout okayplayer.com to find out...

Terence Trent d'arby's hardly disappeared off the face of the earth. He's been making plenty of great music since Wishing Well people, how many diehard TTD/Sananda fans have to point that out before everyone realizes it lol

I think "around for a long time" should be defined because I thought Talking Heads were around for good bit of time before David Byrne left the group. It must have been about ten years between "Psycho Killer" and "Wild Wild Life".
