Will Smith: should he continue to rap, or just act instead?

Will Smith as we know him was the part of the first hip hop duo to win a grammy. After this he went on to start acting in sitcoms and movies and has been very successful at it, even more successful than his music career.

Musically, some view Will Smith as a "soft" rapper, and from other rappers, I don't think they really respect him as a hip hop artist.

It is rumored that right now he is working on another rap album.

So would you buy it?

For myself, i'd rather spend the money on a movie ticket.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

There's not room in the industry for nice guys anymore. Hopefully he's got some money saved up.

Will's problem isn't that he's nice, it's that his music's incredibly BORING.

New York (AP)--Rapper-turned-actor Will "Fresh Prince" Smith, has signed a one year contract with Suge Knight's Death Row Label, according to unnamed sources. Smith, looking to to solidify his standing in the hip-hop circles, is said to be in the studio now working with current heavyweights Jadakiss, Timbaland, Dr. Dre and Timbaland. With a string of box office flops, including Independence Day, Men in Black I & II, Bad Boys I & II , I Robot and the Finding Nemo ripoff Shark Tale, Smith has no credible value in Hollywood.

I think he should ditch the rap career and focus on a career as a politician.. in the meantime keep making movies that don't ever flop that badly.

This writer considers the above films box office flops with no mention of the Wild Wild West or The Legend of Bagger Vance??? Sounds like a hater. As for the original question, he should hang up the rap game and stick to acting.

Come on, y'all! That article isn't real. You think an AP writer would submit an article with writing like that? lol

lol yeah, for one thing a good number of those movies listed were BLOCKBUSTERS.

In any case, I think Will Smith is a pretty good comedic actor, and fairly good serious actor as well. As far as rapping, he was alright when he was the Fresh Prince, but ever since I think he's become a total hack who can't be taken seriously. My answer: stick to acting.

Movies pay the bills, but there's no reason why he should stop rapping. Many actors do music on the side, his wife included, so why not Will?

The majority of the rappers these days should get more into acting so the musicians can take the music field back over.

Didn't he release an album that tanked right before he was dropped by his label? I don't think the music world would mourn for too long if he never released another album.

Big Willie can pretty much do whatever he wants right now. He's got nothing to lose.I can't see Will making an impact in Hip Hop right now. He's successful, has a beautiful wife, takes care of his kids, never been arrested or shot. Will's life is drama free! Most people can't relate to that kind of environment. If I'm wrong, feel free to set me straight.

I agree that his music has gotten pretty boring in recent years, but y'all are acting like he was never good. His mid 80s stuff was a lot of fun. It isn't all Gettin' Jiggy wit(h) It. The problem is that his roles have become as predictable and boring as his choice in song. He keeps dipping in the same well.

To be fair, he played a darker role than usual in "I Robot" and he was alright in Ali. Other than that he has stuck to a predictable (although profitable) variation of a familiar theme.
