If you're In NYC on the 20th, check this out!!:Bourelly, Blackman, ...

for all you lovers of Funk/Jazz/Rock and Hendrixian guitar, check Jean Paul Bourelly out, if you get the chance:

from Joe's:

Working on a new sound he calls "vibe music", connecting the univeral flow of the musical impulses of Africa with acid funk, black rock, jazz, and blues, visionary guitarist Jean-Paul Bourelly returns for a rare NYC appearance with a new power trio featuring TM Stevens on bass and Cindy Blackman on drums, with live video mixing by Enkidu. Just in time for Inauguration Day, Navigating Democracy creates a powerful sonic and visual landscape, steeped in the transformative power of essential outer-cultural influences, to probe the special position improvisation has in expressing the democratic principals of freedom of expression and individualism and to reflect on the recent social and political events that masquarade as acceptable practices of democracy. Bourelly, who is recognized internationally as an important figure in the changing face of progressive music, recently curated Berlin's Black Atlantic project in collaboration with Paul Gilroy, Archie Shepp, DJ Spooky, Doudou N'Diaye Rose, Omar Sosa, and others, connecting diasporic impulses of black-rooted music back and forth over the Atlantic. Bourelly's skank-dripping guitar playing has been featured with an astonishing array of artists, including Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, Vernon Reid, Cassandra Wilson, Olu Dara and the JB Horns. Born in Chicago, Bourelly's musical language blends his Haitian-American upbringing of meringue and voodoo roots music with a hard-edged, city blues, acid sound inspired by Muddy Waters and Carlos Santana. Since relocating to Berlin from NYC in the 90's, Bourelly has pursued dynamic fusions with African musicians and hip-hop emcees in two Boom Bop CD's , Haitian vodou roots drummers in Ayibobo, as well curating the acclaimed Back Room series at the House of World Cultures featuring artists like Conjunto Libre and Hassan Hakmoun. Cindy Blackman is an internationally successful drummer whose powerful music lies in the colourful sounds and sophisticated rhythms of her arrangements and compositions, and has been featured with such diverse artists as Lenny Kravitz, Jackie McLean and Don Pullen...
