What Is Hendrix's best guitar solo? My pick is Machine Gun, although personally I think I'm a bigger fan of Hendrix's production and songwriting than I am of his guitar playing even though he's the all but undisputed greatest guitar player ever.

I was just going to say Machine Gun. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

right now, I'm stuck between Machine Gun and The Star Spangled Banner... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

Either Machine Gun or The Star Spangled Banner because both were live performances.
I'll have to think about this one a little more. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

i'm sure that "technically" it's not the best, but my favorite is the end of "axis: bold of love". it's terribly short, and it's as much about the production as it is about the guitar solo, but i think it's downright blissful.

My fave is when he did the Star Spangled Banner. Wish I was old enough to have been there.... "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Cavett: you were criticized for doing thr star spangled banner..they thought it was unorthodox
JMH: nah it wasnt unorthodox man.. it was a beautiful thing.. there u go

Although it doesn't capture all of Jimi or what he was capable of, I have always loved Little Wing. [Edited 1/14/05 17:46pm] a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

it's definately machine gun, but all the ones mentioned are excellent. what about voodoo child? not "voodoo chile (slight return)" ... i'm talking about the slow blues version ("make love to you in your sleep, and lord knows you felt no pain...") Keep your headphones on.

My mother refused to see Hendrix at the filmore east on new years, even though her friend had a ticket. She was listening to R&B and didn't understand that type of music or why jimi, a black man, was playing it. Little did she know jimi had played in black bands, many that she loved. It's unfortunate that rock music (a black invention) has become so stigmatized in the black community, many blacks to this day won't try to listen to Hendrix or any form of rock music...and why should they really...rock music is dead.
My mother regrets not going to the show..and her friend can be seen in the balcony on the band of gypsy’s album.

It may be an obvious choice, but you really can't go past the guitar wizardry of Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)!
