Strawberry letter 23 i got 3 versions of this track.
1) The original bothers johnson version 2) Kiara version (late 80's) 3) Tevin Campbells I like Tevins best. Awesome lyrics too....."hello my love....." 4 my ignorance, this song is very poetic and one of the most poetic songs I've ever heard. [Edited 1/14/05 9:59am]

well, you're in for a treat. The Brothers Johnson version isnt the original. Its by Shuggie Otis. Where the Brothers J took it deep into the funk, Shuggies version is a little more mellowed out. Its hot! Shuggies version is kind of low-fi in comparrison to the Brothers J. Definately check it out.

Thanx 4 the info.....I like the brothers johnson version but Iam a big fan of tevins.....it may sound dated but i like the production. I guess Shugs version is quite hard to find here in England.

I see my peeps beat me to this one. You have GOT to find the true original -- Shuggie's version. In fact, purchase Inspiration Information; it's an incredible CD.

I guess Shugs version is quite hard to find here in England. You should be able to find it in any store as it was reissued on his 'Inspiration Information' CD in the UK about 3 years ago & it had a massive revival & great publicity in alot of press at the time. Seek it out - if you like Sly Stone 'Riot' then you'll dig it. The Funk, the whole funk & nothin' but the funk, ya dig?!

Shuggie's vocals on the original are less accomplished than George Johnson's on the cover. I also like the arrangement better, along with Lee Ritenour's solo. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
