The "Most Beautiful Disco Record of All" According to Ken Barnes' liner notes of Rhino's The Disco Years: Volume 4...
To conclude this volume, may I present my nomination for the most beautiful disco record of all, Lost in Music by Sister Sledge? Naturally it's a Chic project, and they outdid themselves on the instrumentation, including the most lyrical rhythm guitar playing imaginable. As a testament to pop's powerful sway, it's up there with The Snowmen's It Will Stand, and I have faith that it will stand as a classic of its era. Given all the great songs to choose from, this seems an odd choice to me, and it's one of my least favorite of Chic's productions. I bought this one several years back, and it's a good compilation that's heavy on Chic stuff. Good Times Chic 3:45 High Society Wright, Norma Jean 3:41 He's the Greatest Dancer Sister Sledge 3:36 Spacer Sheila, B Devotion 3:50 I'm Coming Out Diana Ross 3:59 I Like Love [*] Wright, Norma Jean 5:45 I Love You More [*] Rene & Angela 3:39 Keep It Comin' Love KC & the Sunshine Band 3:54 Fresh Kool & the Gang 4:07 In the Bush Musique 4:04 I'm Caught up (In a One Night Love Affair) Inner Life 4:25 A Lover's Holiday [*] Change 4:02 Don't Make Me Wait Peech Boys 4:14 One More Shot C Bank, Jenny Burton 8:34 I.O.U. I have that CD.In fact,I have all of the "Disco Years" CDs from Rhino. They stopped at Volume 7 but I wish they would continue this series. The guy who wrote the liner notes (Ken Barnes) is a huge Chic fan...lol...he raves about every song that they're involved with! "Lost In Music" is an incredible track....hypnotic and mesmerizing. And the lyrics are great...
We're lost in music caught in a trap there's no turning back we're lost in music We're lost in music feel so alive I quit my nine to five I'm lost in music"

I love Spacer & what about Backfired by Debbie Harry?
The best European Disco track => Dancing Queen by Abba, imo. * [Edited 1/13/05 0:11am]

I actually bought this one for a couple of the non-disco tracks - Don't Make Me Wait and One More Shot. Another collection from the same series has Touch Me All Night by Fonda Rae and I Can't Wait by Nu Shooz!

I have all of the CDS in this series and I find them to be really interesting.Sure, not every song here is really disco, but let's be honest,it's not always easy to determine what exactly makes a song a "disco song" in the first place (this is a great topic for another thread, lol).Plus, many songs from this period are actually a combination of disco and R&B,so it's not always easy to label/categorize them. But,as you pointed out, these CDs are worth buying for some of the non-disco tracks, many of which are hard to find.

btw,if you guys are looking for an EXCELLENT site that discusses disco music,go here...
www.discosavvy.com This is,by far,the BEST DISCO SITE on the web (and I have checked out dozens of disco sites, lol). They discuss disco music in depth, year by year, giving you the full history of this music, and they even list the best disco songs from each year, including 2004! (they insist that disco music never really died). You won't find a better site than this one!
