In addition to that damn Kylie Minogue (sp?) who I still don't get I truly don't understand the fervor that once surrounded Nelly Furtado (sp?). I just saw an old episode of SNL & she was HORRIBLE! Off key as fuck, weak flat voice. So what was that all about? Was it just her look people liked so much? WTF??

Why are people who can't sing being touted as "stars" before they're even proven?

I didn't get her popularity either. Wasn't she on one of those VH-1 divas things singing that "I'm Like a Bird" drivel? I remember wondering why this no talent was even invited to the program.

I love her. She's incredibly creative. She plays guitar. At first, her voice put me off. My friend burned me a copy of her first cd and I instantly fell in love with it. Her producers are awesome. Her second cd shows lots of maturity and more variation. I've seen her do good and bad performances on tv. At least she sang live, unlike the usual pop-tarts. I don't even put her in that category. Her lyrics are good. The last song on Folklore always makes me cry. It's so beautiful. Her website is pretty cool. www.nellyfurtado.com

I've seen Nelly Furtado live twice and both times her singing sounded okay. Maybe she had acid reflux the night of her SNL performance.

Nelly's not much of a singer, you gotta admit. It's kind of pinched, whiney thing, with barely any range. But still, I think she's promising writer and plenty of not-great singers have learned to express just as much feeling (if not more) as any multi-octave diva.
