?uestlove Gives The Scoop On D'Angelo's Album!

From another site:

Questlove gives us the scoop:
-----
here the deal
11 songs are done.
most need lyrics.
most are in the 7-9 minute range
all are epic as fuck.
imo--most need a haircut.
shit i love
but shit i know the marketplace aint even ready for.
if "untitled" video is what got him over on the idiot side of things
he is gonna have to get his physical game back and come with some
strong ass imagaining to make up for the fact that there WILL be no radio
friendly single--

newbies im warning you now.....if you want to "understand" this record--you MUST

purchase and study the following:

-funkadelic
-maggot brain
-america eats its young
-cosmic slop
-standing on the verge of getting it on
-let's take it to the stage
-tales of kidd funkadelic
-there's a riot going on
-on the corner
-inspiration information
-smile
-abbey road
-revolver
-electric ladyland
-nevermind the bullocks here comes the sex pistols
-dirty mind
-on the corner
-ego
-tony willaims emergency

study and absorb and research this shit now.

memorize it.

understand why the albums i mentioned were important in their historical context.

lower your expectations. this WILL throw you for a loop.

As long as its better than Voodoo, I'll be happy. My idea of hell is to have bad albums by great artists played for all of eternity ("that was Voodoo by D'angelo! Up next, we have New Power Soul by Prince!"). D is too talented to not deliver us a great album. Personally, I think his best work has yet to have been created (at least, I'm hoping so).

What the hell? Maybe it's cuz I'm loopy on cold medicine, but is ?uestlove making any sense here? Lower your expectations -- it's going to be great. Shit is epic -- needs to be trimmed. Don't cater to idiots -- better do those crunches for the video. Make up yr mind already!

Double co-sign ,but the greatest experience was watching a magical
show he put in Stockholm during the Voodoo tour in 2000.
Probably the greatest show I've ever witnessed!

you serious?

you didn't feel "soul power", "the hustle" or "i am music"--i'd bought the album
for the latter alone. and i love "jimi was a rock star". overall the music was
very nice, but it just didn't fit com's style/raps/whatever. com's electric
circus tour was crazy though!

"like water for chocolate" was, although somewhat too long imho, a great record.
and has the best album opener in hiphop imho ("time travelin", "heat", "cold
blooded").
don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain
i'm high, so high

Ah I aint mad really. biggrin But I reckon you should at least check the duets with Jill Scott & Omar on that album. They are top soul cuts. The Jill Scott track ('I Am Music') is one of the best songs of the past 5 years. I'm sure Purpleone will vouch for that. bow
