Brazilian (bossa) music reco's needed i'm feening for some new bossa funk music from brasil in the same vein as Bebel Gilberto, Tom and Joyce, etc. When I go to Virgin Megastore to the "Brazil" section...I'm a tad overwelmed so any help would be appreciated. I'm kind of tired of the old stuff from the 60s (Astrud, Jobim)--would like to have something a bit more uptempo and modern...

obrigada You might like the Mosquitos. "Mosquitos are a New York trio with two lead singers taking turns in a terrific tango of tunage. Juju Stulbach sings primarily in Portuguese, while Chris Root handles most of the English verses. It’s a dreamy yet earthy and organic sound of fresh coffee beans being ground. Mosquitos have been described as “The Girl from Ipanema” going indie pop. I’m hard pressed to describe it any better. If that song conjures a soft spot in your heart (and how could it not?) or you’ve been tantalized by Brazilian rhythms before, you’ll smile through Sunshine Barato. But don’t forget to go back and check out Mosquitos' self-titled debut. It’s just as sunny. - Jeff Kamin" I like both of their CD's, although I think the self-titled first disc does a better job, with it's nice updated bossanova grooves. I ran across a guy that really has some nice grooves... His name is Celso Fonseca Fonseca... The cd is called Natural... also, If you ever saw that Penelope Cruz movie... "Woman on top", it has a really nice soundtrack. Both of them has good versions of oldies as well as new ones. | |
