How to get started on Herbie Hancock

Whats the best cd to get started on Herbie Hancock. I've been interested in his music for awhile but have yet to buy any of his albums. Can anyone recommend what cd to start out with?

Buy a best of and make sure it one that has "Chameleon" on it. He has a few different best of's but that's a good start. I love everything that he's ever done but he started as a straight jazz player and went into funk and now he has a jazz, world, funk mix. The box set is nice because it gives a little taste of his stuff.

If you want his funk, "Headhunters" is the album to sart with.

Man, it's hard to think of one CD to start out with, since his career (over four decades) has spanned Jazz, Classical, Fusion, Funk, Hip Hop, Techno....It might depend on which period you're most interested in .... there's a recently released Box (The Herbie Hancock Box) set that covers a lot of ground, but if you don't want to drop that much, you might check these out to start....

For a Jazz primer, this one:
Maiden Voyage

For early 70's Electric Funk/Fusion:
Headhunters

for 90's era Hip-Hop - Jazz fusion:
Dis Is Da Drum

...and move Back or Forth from any of those ....
