smile I used 2 love those guys back in the day. Set Adrift On Memory Bliss and Die Without You are 2 early 90s classics. I heard that Jesus Wept was also excellent, but I never got 2 hear it.

I have all their stuff, I haven't listened to it them in years. Great production. They do an acoustic version of 1999 which goes into a Talking Heads song, very cool! Not sure which album, but it's listed as 1999 on the cd.

Yep! I bought "Jesus Wept," a few months ago and was surprised to hear some really wonderful music. I can listen to it, pretty much, straight through. (If only I'd taken the leap when they were hot! I would've liked to have supported them when it mattered more.)

The 1999/As Days Go By/other song track is hot! Like it a lot, especially to sing along ("I said, Boo booooo...")

side note: Wasn't the mixer/producer half of the duo involved with a young cousin for a moment? I seem to recall that playing a role in their going underground, a few years back... I'd hate to be wrong about this, but I remember the Mtv stories. And Mtv's never wrong! Right, Prince?

No disrespect to ya'lls musical tastes....but PM Dawn was one of the 3 worst rap groups (or artists) EVER. They rank right down there with Vanilla Ice and Hammer for worst ever. Ask any hip-hop head...they'd laugh!

I don't really see them as hip-hop though.

If you listen without grading the music against a genre can't you just enjoy for what it is? smile

If Tony M. actually had a hip-hop career, he'd definitely be high on the list. He's another wack one. However, trying to rap on a P track doesn't make you a hip-hop artist.

BTW....if PM Dawn isn't hip-hop, what genre is it?

Well if you enjoying something I don't know how much you worry about classifications. However in strict terms of genres although based in the DAISY age of hip-hop, they brought in jazz, Doo-wop, soul, ambient chillout, funk... hell, Be sings half the time.

PM Dawn cant be compared with LL Cool J for example, not so strictly defined in hip-hop and not an "MC".

I like the way PM Dawn mixes some samples into their own original work. It's very subtle. Their music is very ethereal.

My favorites from them are: Set Adrift, I'd Die Without You, and You Got Me Floatin' (Hendrix cover).

I know they put out a greatest hits - does that mean that they're done?

Oh yes, 'Die without you' and 'Memory bliss' are classics to my ears. I love those songs, I just wish they kept on singing...

P.S. To Codshort, I'm hip-hop and didn't laugh. Now I don't know if their music was original or not (after reading along this thread), but still their music was just GOOD. I actually look forward to hearing them again. smile
